Game #1
Here's a different twist on an old subject. On the same day the Bobcats are in Stillwater I believe the griz are in Eugene, Oregon. Today a Seattle newspaper picked UO to finish 2nd in the Pac 10.
Question: For the glory of the Big Sky Conference... would you rather see um beat the ducks with the kicker being the Cats beat the griz 10 weeks later? Or is there nothing that can make you want any giz to win anytime, anywhere for any reason!
This should put this subject away forever.

Nope. I hope the griz get beat 200 to zip.
Either way, it doesn't matter what happens in Eugene. The griz fans can continue to convince themselves that they have a chance in hell of pulling the upset, while those of us still grounded in reality know they will be lucky to lose by less than 30.
We'll kick their ass in November regardless...

Actually the week the Bobcats play Oklahoma State, the Griz play a major power at home (Fort Lewis College at 1:05 p.m.)
Then the next week (Sept 10th) when the Bobcats play a fairly good team from Texas (Stephen F. Austin) Montana plays Oregon.

I think our kids are going to beat OSU. Period. Doesn't matter that they have more, ours are better and they're better coached. I firmly believe more than just Lulay and Bolton want to play on Sunday and are up by 5:00 working out and when classes are over, are back working out. It's an addiction and passion that fuels a drive to greatness, and the bunch these coaches have in Bozo are REAL special. Plus, the first game of any triple options will see more balls on the ground than clean pitches, not to mention guards stepping on the A and B backs making our DL and LBs look much better than they should...

This may seem strange, but I really wish our Cats were not in the same conference as the Fizzlies. Our state enjoyed unprecendented success economically and athletically when we went our separate ways, but still played nonconference games. Today Nevada ?????????? is ahead of us economically and at the collegiate athletic level? Give me a break!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I dont think a state's economy has anything to do with thier college's athletics, but.... There is nothing that can compare to the cash cow that is the Nevada Gaming Industry. It makes complete sense that nevade is ahead economically. The interesting thing about NV is that it is one of the rare places where Service industries often pay huge salaries.Cat Grad wrote:This may seem strange, but I really wish our Cats were not in the same conference as the Fizzlies. Montana has nothing that can compare to the revenue that NV casino's bring in. Last summer the Bellagio lost power for three days. In those three days the Bellagio lost 12 million dollars. 3 DAYS! (and these were the slow middle of the week days) Name one industry in MT where that would happen.
With all of this Revenue comes huge tax revenue for the state. so Much so there is no state income tax. (although we do have a 7.5 soon to be 8% sales tax on certain items)
As for athletically being in better shape... well, i would like to say that its because there are better local athletes down here, but that certainly isnt the case. High School football down here is pretty sad, with the exception of a kid or two on each team its not that impressive. you would think with 4000 kids in yhour school you would have more tallent than there is.
Im sure some of it has to do with conference affiliation as well as proximity to LA and southern California. But I honestly dont know the answerto this question. I would add though that UNLV football is pretty weak, UNLV Bball is on the rise again, although it wont get back to the level it was when they were cheating.
Bottom line though is that you cant really compare economically the two states as they are so very different.

I agree. Not that I dont want the kids to go in there thinking this is an automatic loss, but I am a realist. I fully expect 100% effort from the Cats, and to stand up to a Big XII team, but to win....BozoneCat wrote:Personally, I have no illusions that MSU is going to beat Oklahoma State. They may not be very good this year, but they are still a Big XII team. I will say that I feel MSU has a better chance at upsetting OSU than Montana does of upsetting Oregon, but that is splitting hairs.

I have no idea what college football has to do with our economic status, and what's this about Cats-Griz playing in separate conferences...what did you smoke this morning?Cat Grad wrote:This may seem strange, but I really wish our Cats were not in the same conference as the Fizzlies. Actually, I posted that yesterday
Surprisingly, some of us may be old enough to remember when Butte still had nearly 100k, Anaconda had about 30k, there was a smelter going in Anaconda, East Helena and Great Falls. We remember the good railroad jobs affiliated with our mining and timber industry and the Fizzlies trying to compete in the Pacific Coast Conference (you probably know it today--it's the Pac-10) and MSC was in a conference consisting of Northern Colorado, Colorado College (CSU), Wyoming, Utah State, BYU and Utah and Nevada was a huge wasteland. How many 516 or 517 social security prefixes are in Nevada today? If I'm not mistaken, we're still the Treasure State and Big Sky has never officially replaced our moniker. But, we can suck up to a few service industry jobs if we want. Do you think China or India will slow down their demand for oil now they've had a taste of the good life? Still think the Cats have a good shot this year. Realistically, hell no we shouldn't even think about it.

Well, thanks for the history lesson, but I dont think I need it as I also remember when Butte/Anaconda was the heart of MT economics and social life, but what this has to do with college athletics is still beyond me.Cat Grad wrote:Actually, I posted that yesterdaySurprisingly, some of us may be old enough to remember when Butte still had nearly 100k, Anaconda had about 30k, there was a smelter going in Anaconda, East Helena and Great Falls.
