With Matakis I'm willing to bet...at least by early October. Remember why he transferred to MSU from A & M? His mission is to play on Sunday and with that goal, he'll be working all the way through rehab...Surgeons today are unbelieveable.

I wouldn't put that much trust into a doctor...

Might remember Hirst. He had a ACL the first of summer last year and was out until Jensen broke his leg at Sac State. Even then he was only 70 or 80 % at best. Even now he has pain.

ACLs are tough, especially when you play nose and have 290 pounders down blocking.

Just hope for the best.

I'm not exactly sure what the exact prognosis is for an MCL sprain. It depends on the severity of the injury, so I would have to look at the MRI to be conclusive. I will say that generally, the prognosis is very good. Without any complicating factors, these guys should all be back come fall. I'll do a little research and try to get more specifics for you later in the day...

As for Matakis - don't hold out ANY hope that he will be back this year. The chances of that happening are slim to none, and the chances of him coming back and making a significant impact this season are even less. He would be wise to get through the surgery and focus on rehabilitating his knee all the way back to 100%, instead of trying to give it a go when it is only 80-90%. The good news is that frequently the repaired knee is up to 150% stronger than the original knee. I have no doubts that Andy will be a workhorse in rehab and will be even better coming into next year.

Yeah, the kid we conned into coming here from Michigan (losing him to Gwinnett County, Georgia next year  had to have crap scrapped a couple of weeks ago. And even with good braces, it still needs more time than a lot of kids are willing to give it; just had to mention his long range goal.

Surgeons are very good, but they aren't God. The overall outcomes are much better than they were even 10 years ago, but an ACL tear is still a very serious, and career-threatening, injury. These take a very long time to heal. Nothing surgeons do can speed up the body's self-healing process. Andy will be completely functional by that time, but there is a huge difference between "functional" and "Division-I football player." Not only does Andy have to get his knee to heal completely, then he has to regain all of the strength and endurance that he will have lost due to the loss of functionality (lifting, running, etc.) he will suffer post-surgery.

I'm going to assume you don't mean that in a bad way. Personally, I wouldn't put that much trust in anyone... well, except myself!

I hope they don't do the same thing with Andy. I understand the desire to get back on the field, and as a fan I completely understand the desire of us fans to want him playing this season. But, my rational and professional side would rather see Andy take his time to let this thing heal up, so that he can come back as a monster next season, and not have the chance of suffering long-term debilitation later in life.

ACL's are bad news. Look at Lance Spencer. He was never 100% last year, and was only starting to gain back his explosiveness before he broke his leg. And his tore his ACL mid way thru the 2003 season.

thanks for all the great info, I started this thread only because I did not have a very good idea of what our injury situation was going to be like.

I have faith in Krames, and ALL our coaches to get this D-unit ready to fire on those cowboys come fall!!!!!!!!!

I have a great deal of confidence in our staff also. Kwaitkowski (?) was forced to bite the bullet last year, but our program demanded that kind of sacrifice. We burned too many redshirts in our playoff appearances when we were also forced to bring walking wounded back. I'm pretty proud of the performance a frequent poster in here made given the severity of his injuries and wish we had more eligibility left on a couple of the late season burned redshirts. It's my suspicion we're going to be healthy and a dominant defense again. Now, can our offense manage the clock and play ball control with a decent lead in the second half? Suspect we've gotten our answers and we don't have all of our tight ends ready either. Look forward to Stillwater and suspect the kids are not looking at this game as something for the budget deficit
