Kramer to Idaho?
Get ready for the rumors to start. According to an Oregon newspaper Dennis Erickson is in discussions with Arizona State. If he were to go don't be surprised if Idaho once again makes a run at Kramer. It was reported last spring if Erickson had not accepted the position it would have been offerred to Kramer and he would taken the job. Kramer played at Idaho and both he and his wife have family close by.

Which 2 schools are you talking about? ASU, Idaho, and MSU are all involved here. If Dennis went to ASU and Mike to Idaho, which 2 programs are you saying would be screwed up?82Vandal wrote:Talk about a way to screw up the programs at both schools!

Idaho never made a run at Kramer. Kramer made a run at Idaho and the Vandals didn't want him. He applied and did not get the job.

At that level, you don't apply. The AD contacts the one in possession of their short list coaches, receives a rubber stamp approval and then contacts the coach and asks if they're interested--usually between 8:30 and 9:00 p.m.Air_Griz wrote:Newsflash:82Vandal wrote:Get ready for the rumors to start. Per Lewistion Morning Tribune
I meant you folks are happy with Kramer, and we are happy with Erickson. Here is an update:
From Tuesday's Lewiston Morning Tribune
Sun Devils apparently interested in Erickson; Idaho AD says neither he nor coach has been contacted about Arizona State vacancy
By MATT BANEY
OF THE TRIBUNE
For the first time since taking over the Idaho football program 10 months ago, Dennis Erickson is rumored to be in the running for another job.
A column in Tuesday's Portland Oregonian reports that Erickson is in contact with Arizona State about its vacant head coach position. The writer, John Canzano, cites "sources close to the process" for his information.
But Idaho athletic director Rob Spear said Tuesday afternoon that neither he nor Erickson have been contacted by ASU.
"It's all speculation," Spear told the Tribune. "I haven't been contacted; Dennis hasn't been contacted. So as of right now, there's no news."
Spear added that it's "proper protocol" for a school to contact the athletic director before speaking to a coach working in his department.
Erickson, 59, was recruiting in California on Tuesday. Spear said that he has talked to Erickson about the rumor.
In a story on the Spokesman-Review's Web site, Erickson said he hasn't spoke with the Sun Devils. But he said he would "probably take a look" at the Pac-10 job if contacted.
A phone message left for Erickson by the Tribune wasn't returned.
The Oregonian appeared to be the only media outlet that reported an Erickson-ASU link Tuesday. Newspapers in Arizona have mentioned him as a possible candidate to replace the fired Dirk Koetter, but those reports didn't say that the school was actually in touch with Erickson.
A story in Tuesday's East Valley Tribune mentions a number of candidates, including Tennessee Titans assistants Dave McGinnis and Norm Chow; Boston College's Tom O'Brien; Tulsa's Steve Kragthorpe; Texas-El Paso's Mike Price; and Fresno State's Pat Hill. But the Scottsdale, Ariz., paper didn't mention Erickson.
ASU athletic director Lisa Love has kept the search for a new coach largely leak-free. On Tuesday, an ASU publicist told the Tribune that the school would make no comment on the search.
In the first year of his second UI stint, Erickson led the Vandals to a 4-8 record -- their best showing since 2000.
Erickson was fired by the San Francisco 49ers after the 2004 season. He was out of football in '05, then replaced Nick Holt as Idaho coach in early February of this year.
Erickson is still collecting money on his contract with the 49ers. He was paid about $250,000 by Idaho this year, and got about $2.25 million from the NFL club. He is due the same amount of money next year, and then his San Francisco contract will finally lapse.
Erickson is famous for quickly rebuilding college programs, then bolting. Between his two Idaho reigns, he coached at Wyoming, Washington State, Miami and Oregon State. He was also the boss of the Seattle Seahawks and 49ers.
His longest stay at any job was six years at Miami, where he won two national championships.

Re: Kramer to Idaho?
Kramer is a good coach. He has improved the Cat program. Last year, the Vandals did not want him. This year, they might if Erickson goes to ASU. If Kramer and his staff do leave for Idaho, then I refer you to the "Recruiting Advantage" thread on this Board and will simply say . . . advantage Griz (I mean MORE ADVANTAGE GRIZ because they already have the advantage).Bay Area Cat wrote:Well, just try to get your facts straight before putting up a post next time ... being wrong with an attitude doesn't look good.Air_Griz wrote:BAC:Bay Area Cat wrote:Are you telling us that Idaho did not proactively contact Kramer about the position?Air_Griz wrote:Newsflash:82Vandal wrote:Get ready for the rumors to start.
