The Next Step

Post by nevadacat » Mon Dec 04, 2006 11:09 am

The title of this year's media guide was, "THE NEXT STEP."

Way to go, Cats, you definitely took the next step toward national contention and BSC dominance. Your defeat of Colorado, your rebound from early adversity, your string of 6 wins, your toe-to-toe play against the Griz and ASU, and your decimation of Furman are testaments to that.

What do we call next year?

How about "REACHING THE SUMMIT?"

I like it!

And with our returning group of players, I like our chances of going at least this far again next year.

(If we can just shake the September Blues....)

Anything short of a title would be a dissapointment next year.

If we are gong up another step next year one critical things needs to happen--We need to be consistent in our offense. Our offense sputtered all year. Some games it was not there. After halftime it went backwards in most games. We need to find a rythim and be consistent throughout the game. Also, take advantage of all the weapons we have.

The bottom line is we need to find a way to smooth things out and be cooking on all cylinders in every game both running and passing!

I agree .. EVERY GAME (And this means early on in the season this year). We cannot continue to shoot ourselves in the foot early in the season each year and expect to make the playoffs. Hopefully with the experience at QB/RB/WR we have coming back we can get off to a good start.

Speaking of getting off to a good start, I know we're playing Texas A&M next year (I really can't see a Colorado-style upset in that one), and obviously our 8 conference games, but A) who are our other non-conference games, and B) do we get 12 games next year? If so, have we slated all of them yet?

I'm not sure who the other two games are, but it seems like a heard a DII mentioned a while back. I don't think the vote on 12 games is until later this month, but if adopted it sounds optional and Kramer has said in the past he doesn't like it.

But a 12th game this year would allow us to play NDSU there, not have to buy them out for 100K and still allow us to have 6 home games. This year we need the 12th game!

Well, like it or not, we may NEED it to offset the likely L at A&M. If the FCS (is that what we're called now?) is allowed 12 games next season, we'll most likely need 9 wins to get in the playoffs; going 9-2 after A&M will be a TALL order...

Hopefully what the team learned from this year is that the top teams are conistent EVERY game. We need that attitude next year. We can't afford to come out in the first three or four games and be confused on offense-calling time outs and guys missing big blocks. We need to be smoothe and consistent all the way!

I don't know about THAT. I would say anything less than a semifinal appearance would be a dissapointment.

Come on man. You can't say that you weren't dissapointed with the quarter final loss. Expect the most from your program. I expect this program to play for championships not just playoff notarity. I am happy with success and that means titles. You certainly don't go into a season and tell them to play like semifinalists. Play like champions because that is what you will be soon!!!
