I just dont understand how UM and NAU are considered co-champs with MSU last year. Now, I can understand the 2002 season co-champ thing with MSU, UM AND ISU, but not 2003! With all three teams locked with identical records, yet the Cats beat both teams head-to-head. What else is there?

If one solitary Griz fan out there can give me a logical reason as to why UM AND NAU deserve co-champ recognition, then I will live with that title. Until then, MSU is outright conference champ for the 2003 season in my book.

1. Who received the automatic conference playoff birth?
2. Who received the most points in the all-sports trophey and presidential races dictated by the Big Sky Conference?
3. Who currently proudly displays the conference championship trophey in their house?

It doesn't matter -- Freddy Mercury never wrote "co-champions with the tie-breaker based on the head-to-head victory over the griz" song. I guess MSU will have to settle for the "We are the Champions" tune, and Bronco can hum himself to sleep with whatever derivative tune does the trick.

How about ThunderStruck by AC/DC? Welcome to the Jungle is good, however, a little overused. We don't need any smack about being copycats. (no pun intended on that one)

The "first down bobcats" yell does make you "copycats", although I believe stealing is the greatest form of flattery as my Griz buddies stole that from Idaho (stealing from vandals??) when we played there a few years ago...

The roaring bobcat has got to go, you guys are the fighting bobcats (see hissing sound) not the fighting mountain lions. If it doesn't work, simply get rid of it...kind of like the Grizzly burp of the early 90s...

I have been begging for this all year: Iron Man, by Black Sabbath. You just gotta love the the low guitar chords, followed by the metallic voice, "I AM IRON MAN!"

Personally, I'd rather the Spirit of the West play than have some song blasted through those crappy speakers.

Drums and horns are what says "college football" to me.

GO CATS!

I was wondering if the marching band could play "Barbara Ann" with a totally rad drum solo in the middle? [/sarcasm]

first down

Post by Catfan6969 » Tue Nov 21, 2006 8:39 pm

This is Jason the PA guy. I actually started using the first down call back in 1997. I don't care about what the guy does west of here. I spent 12 years working in radio and television and quickly found out that everything is copied from one place or the next. Who "copied" who doesn't matter. What matters most is that the crowd gets into it and it works.

Thanks to all of the positive comments though during the season. It's good to be back rooting on the 'Cats.

Good to have you aboard, Jason! I'm sure you have seen the comments regarding the mountain lion vs. bobcat sound. What's your take on this? Is this a university call to use the mountain lion roar or was just a matter of that was all that was available at the time and we have stuck with it?

music

The sound effect was first used by Janet Jackson at the beginning of her "Black Cat" song on the Rythym Nation cd. Way back when we used it at Cat Country before we were bought out. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but it isn't terrible. I think it would be difficult to track a real bobcat and get it to growl into a microphone. (joke) I just hope that I'm allowed to use the first down call since the NCAA controls a ton of what goes on during the playoffs.

Some authentic bobcat growls have already posted on BobcatNation a few moinths ago I believe. Mods - could you dig those up for us?

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware of the sounds here. I apologize.

I'm all for the R&B. There is nothing like the funk to get athletes in the groove. Heavy metal and hard rock are for the head, but the funk is for the whole body.

What was the result of the poll back then? Did more folks like the mountain lion or the bobcat sound? I prefer the mountain lion, but probably just because that's what I'm used to hearing. By the way, Jason - I think you're doing a helluva job. Keep it up.

Thanks for the positive remarks. I really do try to keep everyone happy although that is impossible. I'm hoping that they'll have me back next year.

I think most folks went with the bobcat sound, but if I remember correctly, one of the mods (KMAX, I think) did some editing to it and added some echoing and stuff.

Couple Suggestions:

Stranglehold = Ted Nugent
Cochise = Audioslave (beginning is pretty legit)
Renegades of Funk = Rage Against the Machine
Seven Nation Army = White Stripes
Right Now = Van Halen
La Grange = ZZ Top

Sorry, got a little carried away.

I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.
