BB exhibition

Post by longhorn_22 » Wed Nov 01, 2006 10:17 pm

Cats win 78-63 over Minot State (I think that was the score). Anyway, the only things I have to say right now are about Dissly and Morris. Morris sprained his ankle pretty early and only played about 5 minutes. I didn't see it happen so I don't know the extent of the injury. But Dissly was a stud tonight. 20+ points and he played excellent D. I think he's going to have a great season.

I listened to the game on the net. Sounded like Adrian Zamora (sp?) did a nice job filling in at center. Let's hope big Ted heals up quickly to give us a couple of big men to rotate under the boards.

I only got to see 8 minutes after sitting through what seemed like the longest class ever, but I have a few impressions.

It seems like Zamora did a decent job in the middle. I was sad to hear that Ted got hurt early, but Zamora and even Branden Johnson did a decent job filling in at center. Nick Dissly looked quite a bit like the Nick Dissly I remember, and that's a good sign. Coach Huse was pleased with his leadership on the court tonight. He also said that it will take some time to get the offense set. He noted that the team shot 7 straight 3s at one point and he wants to set an offense before going to the three. He'd also like to go to the line more than the other team. He was also pleased that the team scored 78 points and he made it clear that this team will not be an 80-90 point team most of the year. All in all, it was good to see some basketball and finally get underway with a new era.

GO CATS!

I think we've got us a pretty good coach. The postgame comments were really interesting. The difference between Huse and Durham is a little like the difference between Hysell and Kramer (well maybe not that extreme). Atteberry hardly had to say anything as Huse explained what he saw tonight.

I like the way Huse carried himself on the sideline. He pushed them, encouraged them, was invovled the whole way.

As far as the game...not bad. I don't think we'll be dropping any banners after this season, but there's some potential. I think we're probably a big man or two away from really being good though.

The style of play is going to be a lot different than we are used to. We ran a lot of flex type offense which is more power oriented. The days of passing it around the perimeter and settling for a three as the shot clock runs down appear to be over. Huse talked a lot about how the team shot too many threes in the first half and being more patient. He said we would be a team that rarely scores in the 80's.

Dissly looked good-showed a lot of leadership. Carlos Taylor is a strong finisher-I liked his toughness. Zamora is pretty smooth, but not terribly strong. I'm really excited about Branden Johnson-give him a year or so and I think he might be an all conference type of guy-his game is very complete with an inside presence and an outside threat-his three late in the game kind of sealed it.

We hit our freethows which is nice.

Enjoy the process as Huse develops this team.

I had to work, then caught the second half of the Boise St. game afterwards on ESPN (still in football mode).

However, I did listen to the last part of the game and the postgame show. We hit 16 of 19 F/T's for 84%.

When was the last time we shot over 80% from the stripe in ANY game as a team?

Dissly went off for a career high 26 points. We all know what kind of talent he has. Let's hope it finally shows on a consistent basis in his senior season. I am really pulling for him to have an all-conf type of year this year. Maybe a new system with fresh ideas will help.

Dammit now I'm all excited about basketball season. I'm hopeless.

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

There was a stretch about 10 yrs ago when we would consistently vie for the top FT team in the nation.
What a great show last night from the stripe!
Agreed we are a big guy away though.
Minot was VERY small in the box.
Most teams will have some more beef.
Maybe we should think Ben Wallace with our guys and get them in the weight room. They are very quick compared to what we are used to seeing.

I am glad Huse noted they shot too many threes, I would really like to see us attack the rim more with the athleticism we have and if we don't finish we will draw the fouls that way. I was a little concerned after we shot the 7 straight threes but as coach said it will take some time to get the offense down.
