The University simply can't allow 1,000 students to sit outside and drink from 9am till 5pm without facing a huge liability. The rules have changed since we were in college. The only suggestion I can think of is to close the tailgate during the first quarter and third quarter (like they used to do)...and increase the Police presence in the tailgate section to cite minors. Of course this would have to apply to the booster tail gate section as well.

Thanks, the front row is where all the fun is at. They can't take it away from us. Me and a couple other guys almost got kicked out of saturday's game because we had to much school spirit. The crowd management put a line on the ground that we cannot cross. So no more going the length of stands to get the crowd going. We also had to tone down our dancing. It sucks.WalkOn79 wrote:I disagree. I understand that the prime seats are between the 40's, but I like the attendance and enthusiam shown by the students. Gets me fired up just to see them.Cat-theotherwhitemeat wrote:I'm surprised that MSU hasn't moved the student section away from the high dollar seats at mid-field. Letting the standing room only people fill in the seats in the student section after the 3rd may help, since they don't have "seats" if they do come back from tailgating to watch the finish. They can just pile in like at the Cat/griz game.barechestcat wrote:After walking through the tailgate section on Saturday for a game that ultimtely sold out all of its standing room only tickets.

I support you guys. When I was in a student, we won a keg of beer for being rudy. Thanks Hinky Dink or was it the Zoo bar. We would jump out of the end zone bleachers and do push ups after each score. One push per point. We scored a lot of points back then. By the 4th quarter, doing 40 push up was tough. The crowd management inforcers take all the fun out of attending a game. Keep up the tradition. Push the line. Have fun.catwiththehat wrote:Thanks, the front row is where all the fun is at. I don't think they claimed the game was sold out. The announced attendance was a touch over 10,000.oldcatfan wrote:I heard there were over 500 unclaimed student tickets for the game Saturday and even though they had them, they can still claim the game is sold out. Well in a way its good that we sold out with them, but i think its shameful that everybody stays in the tailgate area for the whole game. On tv it makes us look like nobody cares about the game when everyone stands outside the whole time.oldcatfan wrote:I heard there were over 500 unclaimed student tickets for the game Saturday and even though they had them, they can still claim the game is sold out. That is a good point. The game is televised and we don't have a packed stadium to show how much we love our football at MSU. The cameras aren't going to show how much fun everyone is having outside the stadium we need to get these people inside and having a great time watching a very good football team.Catfan2030 wrote:Well in a way its good that we sold out with them, but i think its shameful that everybody stays in the tailgate area for the whole game. I've got to give credit to Altitude though-the way they frame some of the action with crowd in the background looked great. Also, most of the crowd shots showed a full stadium-I thought it looked really great on TV.bcats wrote:That is a good point. I'm mystified by the 10,000 number-other than that extreme corner of the student section the place looked packed-even the grassy areas on the side of the new grandstand were packed.

I still don't understand the 10,000 number either BB. I spoke with Peter a couple hours before kickoff and he specifically said that they had just sold out and were selling standing room only tickets.
At the homecoming game they sell out and sell standing room only tickets, but due to weather 1/4 or more of the stadium is empty and they announce the attendance at over 14,000. Against Weber they sell out and sell standing room only tickets and all but one corner of the stadium is essentially packed and the attendance is 2,000 under capacity?? What gives? I can't believe they would have changed their method of counting attendance mid-season, anybody in the know give an explanation?

I agree, BelgradeBobcat. I noticed on the Altitude replay that they tended to cut the corner of the student section out of their picture, so you didn't see the empty seats.
Someone's earlier comment about selling tailgating passes, rather than requiring game tickets may be worth considering - possibly after the game tickets are sold out.
I have wondered in the past whether part of the empty corner of the student section is due to people cramming into the middle section. The students (and those of us who are no longer students but prefer to watch the game from there) stand through the whole game. I've seen people cram in to be with other friends when there is plenty of room in the corner. I think standing allows the crowd to squeeze together more. The tickets are probably sold based on a standard two feet per butt (or whatever it is) but the students are denser than that
I think I may be referring to posts in the earlier thread that this peeled off of, but I'm always surprised when we want to sell out games, but pretty soon someone is complaining about spectators who are just spectating and not making enough noise or sit through the game. In the earlier thread it was suggested that if you aren't cheering loud enough, you should just stay home. Make up your mind. Do you want sell-outs and stadium expansions, or do you want to limit participation to those who meet your standards for noise-making?
I know a number of fans who are in their 70's or 80's. Frankly, a lot of them can't stand for three hours, and they probably can't yell that long or that loud. I suppose they should give us an apology for not standing or being loud enough - despite buying season passes for close to 50 years. Personally, I have no problem with them sitting relatively quietly through a game.
I agree, it would be annoying for someone to not just sit quietly, but expect me to tone it down. I just ignore people like that. However, when I have been on the booster side, I sit down for most of the game because it's rude to stand and block others' view if most of the rest of the section is seated. Standing doesn't really make you cheer that much louder.

Ya and on homecoming it seemed like there was nobody there yet the announced attendance was aroung 14,000 (or somewhere close to that). I would have guessed maybe 9,000 at that game...wierd. Plus was that counting based on the people actually in the game or was that by ticket sales?BelgradeBobcat wrote:I've got to give credit to Altitude though-the way they frame some of the action with crowd in the background looked great. I think a good solution to the student problem (although it would not be effective to the regualr paying crowd) would be since students can get tickets for "free" with their student ID they might as well just let students enter the tailgate with that same ID. Thus releasing more tickets for the students that want to watch the game.

The clouds opened up, the sun shines down, and all is right with the world. Thanks sports info! I knew there had to be simple explanation.msusportsinfo wrote:Just to clear it up for you guys: the official attendance at Saturday's game was 13, 827.
