He had a shot, but not a great one imo.
People freaked out about losing Sessions and Wood too. Everything turned out fine. Not everything needs to be negative.
It's just so disheartening to see that these guys would rather chase the NIL money than legitimately compete for the natty next year with a senior-laden team and O line.
Not sure how we'll ever hang onto talented seniors anymore.
I heard Rush was going next, and Valdez is probably next from what I hear, both lines will be gutted. As a fan I hate seeing it.

As would I. I don't blame the players, but I hate the current system. There has to be some limitations put in, or at least better enforcement of existing no- contact rules, if that's even possible.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 7:28 pmI don’t like it either, but it is what it is.91catAlum wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 7:22 pmThat's fair.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 7:17 pmOne player wrong and it’s falling apart? Also, you’re wrong that it’s all about money. It’s money AND playing at a higher level. And honestly, if I were them, I’d do the exact same thing.

I am all for the chaos of the transfer portal. It is what it is, but now that we have a little bit of a longer off-season, I sure hope our coaches are busting their tails try the land some of these guys as well.

Re: Transfer Portal
This is the new reality. We recruit good players, they stay here for a year or two, then they find (or look for) opportunities to move up. We can't control any of it, except continue to attempt to recruit good players. We also have the opportunity to look for good players thru the portal. It is full-on free agency. We saw it happen in basketball and we will continue to see it in football. This same thing is happening to many, many teams across the country.
The question is, with the market flooded with potential transfers, will there be a market correction? And if there are players entering the portal from the big FBS programs as well, that has to affect the market for FCS players. I don't like it, but it the game we are now playing.

The correction is that due to FBS programs taking less HS players and more transfers, we’re recruiting HS players that we usually would not be able to land.cat-o-nine wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 8:08 pmThis is the new reality. Yes he did, however during a Cat Chat interview I'm pretty sure he did say he had a year of eligibility left and it was a possibility that he would play one more year. Lots of players in that situation walk on their senior day just incase they decide to hang it up with a year of eligibility remaining.AFCAT wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 7:34 pmHolden Sampson graduated and walked on Senior day.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 7:14 pmThe OL room is literally loaded. Truth. Unfortunately, if we can only hold on to them for a couple of years, might we end up with a Junior College type of program to some extent?BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 8:19 pmThe correction is that due to FBS programs taking less HS players and more transfers, we’re recruiting HS players that we usually would not be able to land.cat-o-nine wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 8:08 pmThis is the new reality. Some serious competition. I am sure there are a lot of all-conference linemen from FBS schools not just FCS. I wonder if we will see G5 moving up to P4 and FCS back filling G5 spots.

Re: Transfer Portal
Sounds like a lot when they put it that way. Just 3.5 players per team.
They should also have a trade system. MSU has so many good OL imagine if they could’ve worked out deals for Omar and Rush.

There are about to be quite a few players humbled when they find out there isn’t a big market for them they thought (or were told) existed.

That's another component to all this. How long before players start realizing the grass isn't always greener, and sometimes there is no grass?Prodigal Cat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 10:13 pmThere are about to be quite a few players humbled when they find out there isn’t a big market for them they thought (or were told) existed.
