Re: Montana Recruits 2020
I know the Cats were after him hard. Griz fans were a little frustrated that Bobby and company were waiting to make an offer until after they got him into a Griz camp. Looks like they like what they saw and got him an offer and he jumped on it.

They’re having a good recruiting week for sure. Keep in mind they haven’t played their senior seasons yet, so who knows?
Remember 2015 when UM sign the top 4 players out of Montana? Daum, Sims, Ryan and Bingham. Everyone was raving about that.

And that was a great haul at the time. The only one that disappointed on expectations is Daum. Ryan was misused by Stitt then had some devastating injuries. I am glad he was able to recover and play some at RMC. SIms and Bingham are going to be two senior leaders that will make an impact. Recruiting is crap shoot so 50 % on that group is not that bad.

Re: Montana Recruits 2020
Looks like he had his decision made and was just waiting on the offer. I surely would have loved to get all three of these guys, but until the offense evolves, it's a tough sale.

Re: Montana Recruits 2020
On average MSU and UM get two eventual starters from Montana per year. Another 2-3 get spot duty/special teams work. MSU signed 13 from Montana last year.
Probable starters on offense are Brott and Davis. McCutcheon and Jones will get reps. There’s a handful of others that might break into the fray.
Probable stArters on defense are Marks, Benson, Andersen, Konkol and Padmos. Hill will start if healthy. Ferriter Finch and Jobman will get reps. Cozzie Askelson Gilman and Anderson are out there on special teams.

Rostad and Lee are my Top 2 kids and I don't see that changing so that is a very good start to Griz recruiting, specifically in-state. Deck is a good football player but there are several other players at his position in this class comparable to him. I guess that's just a different way of saying Drew is a nice sprinkle on top of the cake. But make no mistake, Drew is a good athlete and can help a football team. Congrats to all three. Bobby is doing a great job of making sure the West kids stay on the west side of the state.

Only 2-3 on average? I’d challenge that. You just rattled off a number of MT players for the Cats. There are also 13 MT players for the Griz who either started or played a ton in 2 deep. Maybe this is a recent anomaly but I think it’s on average much higher than just 2 or 3.iaafan wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2019 8:26 amOn average MSU and UM get two eventual starters from Montana per year. Two starters per team per year. 2-3 additional contributors per team per year. On average.Grizaddict wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2019 10:24 amOnly 2-3 on average? I’d challenge that. Yeah! First one in years. The last one we got that was even close to Montana was Dave Dickinson and he’s from Arizona.

Good stuff guys.
Vim, do you rate players based on good they are in high school or how good you think they’ll be in college?

I rank more to the latter. High school production helps but most of what I do is project how they will develop in college.

Re: Montana Recruits 2020
To add to this...production matters when it comes to meeting certain thresholds. Say, 60% completion for a HS QB, or a 2:1 TD:INT ratio, things like that. But the guy with the best stats is not always the best prospect. I would argue that once thresholds are met, tape and traits are more important than stats. Same goes for college to NFL scouting. I believe this is how Vim does a lot of his rankings, at least that's how it seems to me.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2019 7:09 amI rank more to the latter.
