2 thoughts.
I think portal losses hurt more if it is a young starter because means you probably have younger unproven talent behind them. Seniors like Valdez more likely to have backups who have been in system 2 or 3 years.
I think NIL contracts should be public like coaches contracts. That info may help athletes decide if it is really worth it. Can track # who enter portal, land somewhere, and what their benefit is.
So what I would actually like is a buyout program, just like you have for coaches. For example, if Vigen leaves, the school gets a certain amount of money from whatever school is buying him out of his contract.

So if a player here is getting $10k, whatever NIL collective at the school he’s going to has to put $10k into the NIL collective that was paying him before. All the money is still going to players, but it helps subsidize costs, and obviously the larger the amount is, the more other programs might decide to do something else.

Yes rich people with no connection to MSU will donate. Look on the academic side. The nursing program received 101 million from a couple that live in Texas. Largest nursing school donation ever to any nursing program. Not sure if Gianforte has a connection to MSU or not but his foundation gave 50 million. Most definitely they are out there and it will happen.

Several weeks ago I heard three names that had the potential to earn 6 figure NIL money if they enter the portal: Rush, Omar, Sebastian.

Unfortunately that came true. You can't blame these kids for chasing their dreams...it just sucks.
Yep, you can't blame them $ix figure$ has quite the pulling power but it really does suck. I knew there would be guys jumping into the portal and that Valdez could attract as much attention in the way of $ as almost anybody, but I went into this week feeling confident that he would be back. What gave me that confidence? Well Saturday night I saw him and nodded my head in recognition and gave him a big thumbs up. He actually initiated the conversation and along the way without me asking, said that he would be back next year which I told him was music to my ears. So now hearing that he has entered the portal it's as if the music suddenly stopped as someone scratched the needle across the whole LP (yes I'm old). This one hursts as much as any but good luck Mr. Valdez.
He probably did intend to stay at MSU but someone got in his ear in the last couple days about the NIL money he could make.
Yeah like I said, $ix figure$ has quite the pulling power.
So I don’t have the time to read every thread and every post. But I know I’ve come across the question before on BN, but does anyone have any proof of these so called 6 figure salaries? And second question and maybe it’s a stupid question is if these guys don’t get picked up are they allowed back at MSU? Like I said I don’t read everything on here so please Be gentle 🤣😂
Yes, plenty of proof of 6 figure NIL amounts. I put a couple links in another thread, including a tweet from Sam Herder that 3 current ndsu players have already received 6 figure NIL offers from FBS schools. One was 250k.
I'm not gonna go find them for you but there is a thread about portal money.
Sam Herder writing that players have offers is not necessarily proof. He writes what he hears.
It wasn't a rumor tweet, it was an informational tweet and included a link to a media story about the 3 ndsu players. Like I said I posted it in another thread.

I'm not sure why it's so hard for people to believe this stuff. It's not like Bigfoot. There is actually sourced information out there.
Not saying I don't believe some players don't get paid. I just don't believe every player on FBS roster is getting 6 figure deals. If they are why do guys like Davis drop down to FCS.

Gotcha. I'm sure you're right, not every player is getting paid that much. But the starters are, and the offers to lure the best players to transfer from FCS are 6 figures.
Here is one of those sources about the 3 current ndsu players getting 6 figure offers, one of which is 250k.

https://inforum.com/sports/bison-media- ... 3Dsharebar

Some quotes in case you can't get past the pay wall:
One Bison player has been offered $250,000 in name, image and likeness (NIL) money by a Football Bowl Subdivision program to transfer. Entz said other NDSU players have been offered NIL money by big schools, too. He didn't name the players or the schools.
He didn't name the players who've been offered NIL money by big schools, but said programs from the Big Ten, Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference have illicitly contacted current Bison.
That's called tampering and is against NCAA rules, by the way, but not uncommon. Entz said NIL offers are often through third parties.

What’s stopping them from signing all of our players to huge NIL deals now? Call up Leon and let him know who all the whales are that want to donate. Are they waiting for the Cats to go FBS? Heck, any single one of them could put their name on the stadium if they wanted to. Also, the folks that donated to the nursing program live part time in Montana.

Blah blah blah. Enough of the silver linings. If they don’t want to be here, good luck but see ya. Most of these guys will either be buried in another teams depth chart or won’t pan out the way they foresee it. Let’s start celebrating the players that actually want to play for The Bobcats

Not gonna lie-- this one hurts a lot. NFL talent who is not going to be easily replaced.

Further emphasizes the importance of moving up. Way fewer transfers from Wyoming or Nevada to Michigan than there are guys from our level who are able to grab Power 5 offers.

Nevada has eight in the portal and two already have offers to Oregon State and Arizona State.

NO. They can come back but Vigen (like most coaches) won't take them back. They can't. If they did every player would test the portal just to see and then come back if the offer wasn't there. Ifanse wanted to come back initially when his only 2 offers were Sac State and San Jose State.

This is a valid post, and scary. In another thread somebody mentioned rumors about NDSU players prepping to enter the portal after the season so the NIL crew held an emergency meeting to get them enough money to stay. I don't know if that's all true and I know it's not that easy, but schools like NDSU (And possibly UM), probably have more folks ready to pay up to keep the machine rolling.

The portal - which sucks - puts a bigger emphasis on recruiting Montana kids, who, IMO are much less likely to leave. A friend of Marcus Wehr asked him what he would need in NIL money. He said, "a pickle barrel."
I'm leaning to believe Brody Grebe will be the next one with a decision to make.

Yep it sucks bad. Not sure we'll compete for a title next year without our 3 best trench players.
Every other FCS program has the same issue. Yeah, ti sucks, but ultimately it should be pretty meaningless in the FCS competitive landscape.

Maybe, maybe not. Gianforte has zero connection to MSU but gave a bunch of money to endow a computer science program. Cause its in his business interest to do so.

The Texas couple gave a bunch of money cause they want to see a more developed nursing program.

No idea if anyone wants to step up specifically for football or not.

Someone needs to tell me why we should focus on Montana kids anymore. Not that any of the ones leaving are MT recruits , but seriously, why focus on MT recruits at all anymore? The good ones leave anyways. We should both just recruit the best we can regardless of where they came from. The good ones leave anyways so why worry. We're both nothing more than a farm system anyways, so why not grab rhe best we can - thanks NCAA! We'll continue to do our best to find those kids you didn't recruit for ya! Glad we could help find the kids you didn't recruit for you!

Do they? The griz have lost one player who did not play much this year. Yes they are still playing but that should not matter. You want to enter as soon as you can to take advantage of any opportunity.

I think that remains an to be seen. As SDSU, NDSU, UM, etc finish playing we’ll see. If they start losing their top guys I’d agree. If they don’t, MSU may have some issues.

NDSU lost like 5-6 starters last year. They’ll lose more. Last year SDSU had their best player turn down big money to stay and win a championship. Most of Montana’s impact players are seniors, but I wouldn’t expect Gilman to stay all 4 years.

This one was the most obvious. Thank you Sebastian, and good luck in the future! Maybe next season whatever conference you play in will call some of the blatant holds against you by the opposing offensive line.

Seattle to Billings to Missoula to Bozeman to Portland to Billings

What a ride
