I don't think a lot of kids have strong agent representation that gives them honest and accurate advice. Why leave a starting position to go bigger and be more of a special teams player than starter?
That’s easy, money.
How much money is Scottre getting at UMN? IMO at this point, it's mostly hopium and wish casting. None of those guys from the pandas are getting particularly big offers. Loud MIGHT get $100-$200kk, but that would be on the high end.

I don’t know this for fact, but I have heard that Scottre may have backed himself into a corner with entering the portal and then when his grades were disclosed, a lot of his big offers disappeared. He may not be getting much of anything at UNM but maybe didn’t have a choice on where to go when push came to shove.

LOL. Sorry to sound dismissive...but grades are not an issue in big time college football.

I'm a big believer in Occam's razor, that the simplest explanation is usually the best one. The simplest explanation is that P4 schools aren't paying top dollar for guys like Scottre and Loud. They are good, don't get me wrong. But no-one is offering guys with that level of talent mid six figures. Those contracts are reserved for starters at CFP schools and NFL prospects.

MSU has an absolute boatload of talented DBs who aren’t on the depth chart.

I have no pride of ownership in the story and agree that grades don’t typically matter. It just seemed to sort of connect
to how he had so many bigger offers and then ultimately ended up at UNM and is hardly playing.

Had a discussion with him and another player a month before frisco on the very subject. Still wish him well

I don’t think that’s accurate. I think it’s the promise of money. There’s a lot of deception.

Grades were in fact a large reason or possibly the excuse bigger schools used for not taking him. He wanted to come back, however, him not being transparent to coaching staff led to him not coming back and taking around 20-30K at UNM.

Assuming that’s all taxable, what a damn shame. I get that UNM is actually relevant again with Eck on board but Scottre could (potentially) here playing a lot of snaps and in the running for another national championship.

He's probably going straight to the NFL, grizLLy fans said he's incredible and the savior of their defense.

My guess is that Wing is next and that when it's all said and done, Jareb Ramos will be the only returning starter on their defense.

Clay Oven, Hayden Schwartz, Jake Mason, Braydon Bailey, Kade Cutler, Kade Boyd... those are pretty much the only other guys coming back who even had a significant role.

It's going to have to be a total overhaul.

On offense, it will be pretty significant too. Though if they wind up bringing back KAY, Gillman, and Brooks Davis, that's going to be a great start. I think the OL will be the X factor for them. Will losing the entire unit from this year actually help them? Or are they taking a step backwards from what was already a pretty tenuous position?
I believe they had a redshirt freshman, Amick, starting at one of the OT spots the last few games of the year.
He’s going to be a good one if he stays. I hate the word DOLA over there because I haven’t seen too many dominant O lineman in Missoula for a while. But this kid has it. Was on a number of freshman award lists along with brooks Davis so he’s getting some recognition. Which also makes me nervous he could portal
Amuck wasn’t even good enough to crack the starting rotation of a weak line until an injury occurred. You are living in an alternate universe.
I’ll trust Jordan Tripp who ranted and raved about how good he is, especially for a freshman. And he landed on a number of freshman recognition award lists for FCS along with Brooks Davis. So do you ignore all that? Your HDS gets the best of you. It’s fascinating at times.

Gris Homer Jordan Tripp? I am sure he is not biased! and you are the one saying “he has it”. Seems like a stretch for a backup. Like I said, if there wasn’t an injury, this kid doesn’t see the field. And your line was terrible. Colter and others have said that it is weak.

MSU has an absolute boatload of talented DBs who aren’t on the depth chart.
At outside corner, I think it could be a little thin. I like Boyd. Who else?
I'm not sure at corner specifically, but the DB room has Boyd and Ross, who were both good on ST cover units. Boyd is a corner and Ross is a safety, but could be a corner. Thomas played well at S, but seems like a potential corner prospect, and STs and Ohalete was another good ST guy. Dethman (might move to LB if he hasn't already) is a very intriguing safety and good ST guy. That's five that I think would be seamless replacements in the secondary, if needed.

I'm not sure about Coleman but he was recruited by UTEP and there's also Gunlock and Oxarart.

You mention Dethman maybe moving to LB, I thought he start this year in the LB room and was moved to safety part way through this season. In any case he looks like a good and versatile athlete and one that we expect to break out next year anywhere and everywhere on the field!

Yeah I love their depth at nickel and safety. But if all the true corners who play jumped into the portal, I think they would need help.

Happy New Year.
