Probably the best opportunity I’ll have in this life to see someone organically wearing a monocle. I’m so excited.
The Austin Peay Governors wear monocles. We hosted them a few years ago. Check out their mascot/logo.

Insane game. 35-7 YSU with seven minutes in the third, Yale outscores them 36-7 over the last 22 minutes.

The Cats would have rolled either team, but I am glad not to have to deal with Brungard. He’s the kind of individual talent who could create an upset.

Pretty remarkable stat.

And not just a 28 point halftime deficit. A 28 point deficit with less than 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

Incredible game for those who watched it.

And you all were correct about Youngstown now being able to close out a game…

Guessing there were 3000ish in attendance. It looks like snow next weekend in Bozeman. They will surely come close to a full house. Even at 79 I would be in the crowd if I could be there. Here’s to leaving the Yalies in awe of the crowd. (How do you spell Yalies????)
I hope not too much snow. A heavy footed tough runner like Pitsenberger could be a challenge in weather. Since he has run over 30 times a game last couple games I would expect a heavy dose of him! But we should handle him normally!
The difference between MSU and YSU handling him is miles apart.
Well I certainly agree that we will/should….but don’t discount the kid. Freshman of the year, Offensive POY this year, Jerry Rice Award finalist in 2022, +1200 yards this year, 8 one hundred yard rushing games this year, same height as Gillman from gris….but a bit heavier, 40 yard times the same as Gillman kid, shown to be durable if he is standing up to over 30 carries a game in last couple games…..If it’s a snowy icy field I like heavy footed stout runners like this kid.

Digging deep into some raw numbers Youngstown St is less than a 1 point favorite.

And this game is even closer: SE Louisiana is the favorite over Illinois St by just over 0 points.

Should be some interesting games. I’ll explain more after I wake up! Statistics of this type provide the most probable outcome. The ranges of possible outcomes are pretty wide.
So, Mr. Massey’s computer knew what it was talking about. Massey publishes two different listings from the software. The more familiar one is the Rankings, which works more like the human polls do. Looks more heavily at scores, etc. The other is the Ratings, which takes into account defensive strength, offensive strength, strength of schedule, home field advantage, and more. The Ranking (like Sagarin) can determine a point spread by subtracting the rankings for the two teams. It’s much more detailed and aligns more with the committee’s selections. I heard on a Podcast this week that the committee does use strength of schedule from Massey. I’ll bet they use some other non-public things as the Massey business is a commercial provider of data to odds-makers, etc. He’s nice enough to let us see a lot of the basic stuff online. The Yale @ Youngstown game was actually -0.69 for Youngstown. Close. And it turned out close.

For a Big Sky Comparison, the rankings have Youngstown St, Idaho, Yale right together in that order. Idaho would be favored by -0.14 over Yale. ‘Cats just need to take care of business.

By the way — the projection for Yale @ MSU (-17.00) is by chance a whole number and one I’ve seen kicked around here on the board quite a bit. I agree with other posters, Yale has some excellent players, but will be betrayed by their shallow depth. The offensive linemen look as though they’ll be a bit out of breath at 4,800 ft. 💙💛😺

I hate to admit I was in the stands at this game https://gogriz.com/news/2009/11/28/Griz ... bits_61_48

Nobody on this year's gris team can light things up like Mariani did. Not even close. I wonder if anybody from SDSU remembers it.

Impressive stats, but one must consider their competition. Once you do that, he's not that impressive and our D will handle him just fine.

They lost to anyone of consequence, and beat other Ivy teams who suck.

I doubt it since they were probably in elementary school. I remember it vividly though. That was a wild game. I bet they all remember knocking the gris out of the playoffs last year in Brookings though.

I lived in Missoula at the time and was there too. Mariani was such a stud.

It feels an awful lot like we are going to cook Yale next week. After watching the game, our lines are soooo much better.

Prove me wrong?!?

Nothing to prove wrong. We’ll probably open right around 2 td favorites and cover that easy and then some. Get a big lead, rest starters, win by 30

I watched in TV and remember telling my dad that SDSU was going away from their offense and defense too soon. Playing prevent and just going to vanilla run plays. Trying to run out clock. They gave thay game away.

Wow, Massey has the CATS 38-14.

And the Gris losing by 3, 30-27…

I'll probably get voted off the island for this but the one UM player that I just really enjoyed watching over the last 20+ years was Mariani. Him pretty much willing UM to that win on his own was pretty cool to watch.
