Does Ah Yat Crumble
I see a lot of discussion on here if Lamson can handle the pressure of this game. Betting between the two starting QB's on who will, my bet is on Ah Yat. It's his first start in the big game, conference champs on the line, 2 seed in the playoffs on the line, beating your rival at home on the line, gris nation has already anointed him the 2nd coming with huge expectations, playing in his father's shadow, etc. The kid has a ton of pressure on his shoulders. The gris will be playing the best team they've faced all season by a mile, the best defensive front in the conference (possibly all of FCS). I could see the wheels coming off and him running for his life making key mistakes.

Re: Does Ah Yat Crumble
The griz are supposed to win this game. It's at home. They are undefeated. They are getting more media favoritism due to their record. That's a lot to live up to, especially after getting smacked around by a real defense to start the game.
The Bobcats are the better team and are assumed to be underdogs because the game is in Missoula. They'll have a chip on their shoulders, ready to show the country that this team is different and isn't intimidated by anyone.
The griz appear to feel a little too comfortable at home because in close games the other team has found ways to lose more than the griz finding a way to win. But those teams weren't the Bobcats. The Cats will punch them in the mouth from the start and play 60 minutes, with Lamson leading the way.

I don’t think he will crumble psychologically under the pressure of the game, but I do think he could be stifled by the best defense he’s seen this season.

This is true of every qb, of course, but it's notable with Ah Yat. He is very noticeably bothered by a dirty pocket, especially one where he can't escape laterally. If we can get him jittery and be disciplined to our rush lanes i think we'll force him into some mistakes.

I know Wa/Griz can be a difficult to play, but this whole “does justin lamson crumble” narrative is stupid.

Re: Does Ah Yat Crumble
Well the fact is, the the pressure is on the griz to defend their home field and their record. Despite being favored, the Cats are coming in as the underdogs. Being undefeated is alot to deal with, as the Cats experienced last year. The target is on your back every game. But like was said above, I don't think the griz won those 3 particularly close games, I think those teams lost those games. This will be the biggest test the griz have had all season, and it's their 12th game in a row. I don't think they've got the depth the Cats have. I think it might be close in the first half, but I'm thinking the pressure gets to AhYat in the 2nd half.
Of course knowing Bobby, he might use some trickery and start his other QB, saving AhYat for the 2nd half come back.

I understand it. We’ve seen it before with past QB’s. It’s fair to wonder if it will happen again.

Re: Does Ah Yat Crumble
Ah Yat has really settled in, he came out of the gate throwing 4 picks to 4 touchdowns, getting sacked 8 times, completing just under 62% of his passes. Since then he's got 20 touchdowns to 3 interceptions, been sacked 10 times, completing closer to 69% of his passes.

The Griz have only played 3 teams in the top 50 of FCS scoring defenses (yes I know they drive the average up) - #17 UND (18.8 PPG, scored 24), #46 Idaho (25.5 PPG, scored 41) and #49 Sacred Heart (25.5 PPG, scored 43).RockyBearCat wrote: ↑Thu Nov 20, 2025 11:32 amfixed it for you.CelticCat wrote: ↑Thu Nov 20, 2025 11:30 amAh Yat has really settled in, he came out of the gate throwing 4 picks to 4 touchdowns, getting sacked 8 times, completing just under 62% of his passes . No, I do not think Ah Yat will crumble. I think he will play well and we will have to play our hearts out to win in Missoula, just like always.

Re: Does Ah Yat Crumble
I agree. The guy isn't going to crumble. But it's going to be eye-opening for him for sure. Wa-griz is a difficult environment, one that worries me more than their actual football team; but let's not act like it's impossible to play there. Teams score touchdowns in there. Some even win games there. The place will be rocking no doubt, but I'm confident in this entire teams ability to weather the storm. They do and they win.
In regards to Ah Yat, I also don't see him crumbling. But the Cat-griz GAME is much bigger than the homefield crowd regardless of what some griz fans may think. This is a huge moment and a huge game for every player on both teams. It will obviously be more favorable for the home quarterback, but we can't ignore the fact that Ah Yat has never been in a game like this in his life. He's going to have to rise to the occasion just like everyone else.

Re: Does Ah Yat Crumble
It's not a narrative, it's a question being discussed on a fan message board. There's just a good of a chance that Lamson smokes the griz secondary. Doesn't mean it's a stupid question.

Lamson has played at SMU, Oregon (twice), Clemson, Notre Dame and Syracuse to name a few. I think he can handle crowds. One thing that no Bobcat QB has ever had at WaGriz is in helmet communication. I know it stops 15 seconds before the play clock runs out or the snap, but I have to think that will help some?ilovethecats wrote: ↑Thu Nov 20, 2025 11:43 amI agree. The guy isn't going to crumble. Good point that I have not really heard discussed all year. In a hurry up offense seems like could really bad an advantageRyeCat wrote: ↑Thu Nov 20, 2025 2:06 pmLamson has played at SMU, Oregon (twice), Clemson, Notre Dame and Syracuse to name a few. By betting sites yes. Not by the media and most outside the state analyzing the game. The narrative is that Vigen can't win in Missoula, the Cats already have 2 losses and the griz are undefeated.hilinegrizfan wrote: ↑Thu Nov 20, 2025 2:08 pmcats are literally favored to win the gamecoloradocat wrote: ↑Thu Nov 20, 2025 10:37 amThe griz are supposed to win this game. And those 2 losses vs. undefeated are the only (or at least main thing) people are looking at.
Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14, but 34-11 will do.

Agree on the helmet communication. Disagree on the rest as has been discussed on another thread. It's NOT the size of the crowd. It's the energy and hostility in addition to extreme noise. I can assure you that Stanford/Syracuse wasn't as nuts as Saturday is going to be.RyeCat wrote: ↑Thu Nov 20, 2025 2:06 pmLamson has played at SMU, Oregon (twice), Clemson, Notre Dame and Syracuse to name a few. This isn't to suggest that Lamson can't handle it. He can and I expect him to play well. But people need to stop just throwing out big stadiums and suggesting it's the same as the Brawl. It's just not.
