First impressions: Logie did a hell of a job in the portal this year. All these guys look like quality Big Sky-level players.

Solid performance so far. Great showing against a very tall and athletic team.
While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."

Great first showing. As was mentioned, it seems Logie was able to bring in some great talent from the portal.

Damn, that was a tough one there at the end. Two of my pet peeves really cost the Bobcats, allowing an offensive board on a missed FT that led to a 3 and then fouling #2 on a three point attempt when MSU was up 4 with 3 minutes to go. Colorado had the most athletic player on the court and he ultimately took over, then Holden couldn't get the shot at the rim to go that would have tied it at 80. Oh well, time for a laugher of a home win on Wednesday and revenge for last year against Denver this weekend. Go Cats! McMahon for Big Sky POY.

Cats matched them blow for blow on the court and in fact outscored them from the field. The difference was 39 free throws for colorado to 17 for us. And still a play or two at the end could have won it. We'll be fine.

Yep, this is a much different team than in year's past. Gonna take a while to gel, and it's only one game - so I reserve my right to change my opinion - but the size, athletecism and shooting talent appear to be there. Really hope Pat "Mcmin" can stay healthy the whole season, he's got first team all Big Sky written all over him, if not potential POY consideration. He's got a really good midrange game. Coach "Loggie" seems to have recruited well in this new transfer portal era.
Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

I had no idea what this team would look like before last night but now I’m excited for the season. McMahon and Miller are terrific leaders and the new talent has a lot of promise. Only one game but these guys will be competitive in conference play.

Re: MBB @ Colorado
CU was taller/longer across the board. Effort-wise, the Cats won the (in effect) 2nd and 3rd quarters. Our defense was tighter, getting to loose balls, figthing for rebounds, etc.
CU played above the rim the 1st quarter. Their pick and roll, and lob game was unstoppable. They had a nice hi-lo set right after halftime that we couldn't hope to stop. I'm not sure what happened. Either, A: we made great defensive adjustments, or B: they forgot about their clear advantage and wanted to run their normal offense.
Our two big guys did really well against their height and physicality. (21) Chris Hodges continued to back both their centers down and get his shot. (35) Waka Mbatch played with real effort and passion all night. Both of them got hamstrung by some ticky-tack foul calls. There was one referee (with fancy haircut & lots of gel) that must've been waiting all offseason to blow his whistle. If 40 fouls were called in the game, he easily called 30 of them.
2nd half, (24) Jed Miller played well, but I'm not sure why we went totally away from (0) Davian Brown. He was just as quick as their good freshman (2) Isaiah Johnson...and maybe could've matched up better defensively. Dwayne Wade was in the front row & went wild when (2) got hot at the end of the game. I'm guessing he's a relative or family friend.
(24) McMahon played lights out. All the fans around me recognized him as the best scorer on the court. Crowd was super quiet until Buffs came back to tie in 2nd half. I think they were like us...."what kind of team do we have?" While MSU was spleasantly surprised, CU was disappointed. "If this is it...it's going to be a long year"
Very, very solid first game of the season. To pull an upset, we needed to make a few more bunnies and cause a few more turnovers...but we were damn close.

They said on the TV broadcast that Dwyane Wade is #2's godfather. The player's father works for Klutch Sports which represents Lebron James and many other NBA players, which is presumably how Wade knows the family.WolfPtCat wrote: ↑Tue Nov 04, 2025 9:40 amCU was taller/longer across the board. How about Buff's assistant coach Danny Freaking Manning! I wonder if any of our players or coaches even know who he is.

With the possible exception of Xavier Bishop I'm sure the coaches know him, I'm around Logie's age and I certainly remember Manning as an NBA player in the 90s and early 2000s.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Tue Nov 04, 2025 11:03 amHow about Buff's assistant coach Danny Freaking Manning! The ref with the fancy hair and gel is Greg Nixon. Used to referee a lot of big sky games but now I guess has moved up to the big time. From his calls it looked like he wanted to make sure he was welcome back to Colorado. I remember a game between Gonzaga and San Francisco where he threw Mark Few out for questioning a call. Eric Curry has nothing on him.

56 whistles were blown. That was the decider.WolfPtCat wrote: ↑Tue Nov 04, 2025 9:40 amCU was taller/longer across the board. Effort-wise, the Cats won the (in effect) 2nd and 3rd quarters. Our defense was tighter, getting to loose balls, figthing for rebounds, etc.

Re: MBB @ Colorado
Power Conference refs are not going to have teams lose to low level conferences if it's a close game. But we lost because we couldn't defend the true freshman guard in last 4 minutes.Cat449yrs wrote: ↑Tue Nov 04, 2025 2:22 pmThe ref with the fancy hair and gel is Greg Nixon.
