Popular egris narrative
As one would do during this rivalry week, I've found myself visiting egris fairly regularly. Although pretty mundane, and by egris standards, tame, there seems to be a popular narrative that the optimist gris fan is banking on. The notion that their offense finally found their identity against PSU. Let that sink in, and try not to laugh.
I say again:
The gris offense, in the 2nd half of the 11th game of the season, against the worst defense in the conference, against he same team the Cats were beating by 6 possessions at half, now have a identity on offense that is battle tested and ready to take on the best defense in conference in front of the biggest, loudest, and most hostile crowd they'll see this year.
Did I miss anything?

That’s exactly what anyone would be saying, hoping, banking on. It could be true. Fife, now that he’s not looking over his shoulder, could have a better mindset and that could make a big difference.
Then again, he might’ve just been experiencing a hot streak. He was 9-14 for 197 yards and three TDS in one half. I think he started out 9-11. Lots of other things may have contributed to that such as poor pass D and lag in defensive adjustments.
On the season, Fife has a very good 155 Passer rating. Psu is last in the BSC in both pass efficiency defense 168 and pass yards per game. Viks have just eight sacks and four interceptions on the year.

They also have decided that Bobby was just waiting all year for Fife to yell at him to show his leadership and fire. And he got it and now they will be amazing. Bobby is at Yoda level apparently.

Has this been verified? I mean, I think it’s what should happen as whatever they’ve been doing at QB has been a disaster all year. But I thought I saw Ah Yat OR Fife on the depth chart. Which obviously means nothing with Bobby; but just curious if this is actually a done deal or just fans assuming?

We're fans, we all want to believe our team has a legitimate chance to win even when the records and the stats and the media say otherwise. I can remember plenty of game prediction threads on here when MSU was a big underdog but most of the posters still picked them to pull off the upset.
Anyway, 90% of eGriz these days seems to be one guy on about his 20th username over the years starting threads about the Bobcats to bait responses and then get into arguments.

The Griz do have some talent on their offense. We all know what Bergan and Gilman are capable of. The thing with UM though is that if you break them offensively and can get pressure consistently, they will fold easier than an omelet.

Re: Popular egris narrative
So my take on this general narrative is not so much that they’re saying “here it is, we finally figured it out 11 games into the season against the worst D in the conference”.
From what I’ve followed this season, the vast majority of the fans have known this whole time that Fife is the better option and the offense simply operates better with him back there. And when it’s clicking, it’s pretty good, they have some serious playmakers.
But for whatever reason, the coaching staff has insisted on the two qb system, that has clearly hurt both qb’s.
So now, one qb goes down and is very likely out for this game, and the other one got the chance to play for a full half without looking over his shoulder, and the results were good.
So I think it’s pretty natural as fans to be at least a little optimistic that going into the biggest game of the year, that your better of the two options at qb is likely going to get to play the whole game, no subbing back and forth, and he’s coming off a half that the offense looked good.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it’ll be enough, but in my opinion, Fife undoubtedly gives them a better shot on Saturday than Ah Yat would have, and I think we’re just seeing some of that slight optimism.

This is pretty amazing. The argument between Bobby and Fife is telling about the poor leadership from Bobby - AFTER fife just took them to their first score of the game in the second half.

My take on the qb drama. Fife is better than Ah Yat, but Fife is at his ceiling (which isn’t very high) and Ah Yat has the ability to eventually be much better. Bobby knows that Fife isnt the guy to take him to a chipper and is hoping, by giving more time to Ah Yat, he’d develop throughout the season and eventually surpass the lowly Fife.
Obviously that didn’t happen. Now they’re f’d
I think we win by 3 TDs.

But they have Monte.
Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14, but 34-11 will do.

Although Gilman is very good and a threat, they've gone away from the run. Doesn't make sense to me, but it passes the test over there for some reason.

Even if their offense plays better, it doesn’t change that their defense isn’t good against the run.

Yeah we all got a good look at his YODA level last Saturday. Yelling Obesities Demented Ahole
For the record, my good friend Cosmo Kramer (who is a self-taught lip reader) insists that Bobby wasn't yelling F you F you but rather Vacuum Vacuum.

Yes, but it was 267.5 vs PSU.tetoncat wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2024 7:32 amSo his season efficiency is less than PSU gives up?TomCat88 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2024 5:11 amThat’s exactly what anyone would be saying, hoping, banking on. This to me might be even more perplexing than their quarterback debacle.

Agreed. No more than 15 carries and that was first game. 3 games with 8, 4 games over 100 yards. 2nd Best game vs PSU 14 for 134 but 3 before that less than 40 yds. Carries were same so either dinged up or better defense.

I don't think anything is verified. But Ah Yat suffered an ankle injury last week and didn't return. It looked like a possible high ankle sprain, so he might not be available regardless of whats on the depth chart.ilovethecats wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2024 6:29 amHas this been verified?
