Rush Reimer in the Portal
Lost our two starting guards today. Who is expected to replace them? Our two starting guards from 2022 (Reed & Sain). Technically, we could role into next year with the same 2022 starting OL other than Rush at left tackle which is now manned by Conner Moore.

I was wondering if MSU would move Wehr inside? He played there in Rush's absence against NDSU and I thought played well.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 5:51 pm

Moore, LT
Reed, LG
Perkins, C
Wehr, RG
Fleishman, RT (if healthy?)
Wouldn't mind if Jacob Anderson or Dylan Rollins decided to come home

Not really when they've still got a starting 5 (Moore, Reed, Perkins, Sain, and Wehr) who all started in 2022 and/or 2023. Will need to develop depth behind them but I've got full confidence that this starting 5 can keep it going with little to no dropoff.

Sain has been hurt at least part of every season. JT played about 4 snaps before re-injuring himself his 1st game back. I'm not super confident the 2022 starting line will be intact all of 2024, or even most. Not to mention the portal madness probably isn't over.

It's pretty rare for any starting OL to go through a full season without any guys missing time due to injury, but at least the pieces are there (if healthy) with no glaring holes that need to be filled.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 6:10 pmSain has been hurt at least part of every season. Not sure that this makes football sense for him-- not clear to me he automatically shines at the Power 5 level in a way that I'd expect Omar to\o. But probably NIL money is dispositive.
In any event, he'll be leaving with a degree and four years in the program so he's certainly fulfilled any obligations on his end.

You do know there’s other levels other than P5, right? There’s a lot of options between us and P5.Travelingcat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 6:23 pmNot sure that this makes football sense for him-- not clear to me he automatically shines at the Power 5 level in a way that I'd expect Omar to\o. Which of those schools play better football and provide better exposure?ThoughtUKnew14 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 6:28 pmYou do know there’s other levels other than P5, right? A lot! Group of 5 plays good football. Plus NFL evaluators look at level competition you play against. Hell there are better FCS programs than us.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 6:35 pmWhich of those schools play better football and provide better exposure?ThoughtUKnew14 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 6:28 pmYou do know there’s other levels other than P5, right? I disagree. The top FCS teams are getting as much exposure as any G5 team. The top FCS teams are better than half the G5 on the field as well. I get moving to a P5, I don't get a G5 move.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 6:39 pmUmmm…a lot.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 6:35 pmWhich of those schools play better football and provide better exposure?ThoughtUKnew14 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 6:28 pmYou do know there’s other levels other than P5, right? Even if you were right, which you aren’t but I’m not going to argue it, half of the G5 is a rather large group.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 6:42 pmI disagree. I think there’s some naivety towards where we are relative to even bottom tier G5 schools. We might be better on the field, but to their peers and even scouts, we’re still a “D2” school. We might be as good as some of those teams, but we are a literal level below, and you damn well better believe that matters to a lot of people. Just like there are D2 schools that could beat BSC teams, we would understand how any D2 player would transfer to even Northern Colorado.

Yeah you're probably right, I'm just mad. Really hate the portal in it's current state. Can't fault the players for doing what they think is best, but the portal is not best for college athletics.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 6:48 pmEven if you were right, which you aren’t but I’m not going to argue it, half of the G5 is a rather large group.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 6:42 pmI disagree. Edit: I am pretty confident the best FCS schools could beat the bottom half of C USA, the MWC, the SBC and the MAC regularly though.

Yes. I mean other posters have mentioned they've likely talked to each other, I'm sure that's true. What if it's a brotherhood thing? I don't know, but it's just alot in one day. Overreacting I'm sure, but just didn't expect so many right away. And all OL.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 7:46 pmOur you asking me if all 7 of our lineman rotation transfers in one offseason?nanacat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 6:46 pmWhat if they all go?VimSince03 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 5:51 pm
