Re: New Video Board out to bid
I know we already touched on the subject of building a team and getting it done ourselves, but I really feel like it’s starting to gain some traction this time.
Once we’re done with the video board, we’re going to head over to the IPF. We may need a few more ice augers for that one but not a ridiculous amount. From there we’ll build new east side stands to match the south end zone. I’m hoping we can be done with all these projects by the time playoffs come around. I’ve got plans on how to leave the current east side stands in place while we construct the new stands off site. That being said, if anyone has a few appliance dollys or casters laying around, we’ve got a job for you.

Pretty bold to put the east side stands after the IPF around these parts.Cats92 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 12:33 pmI know we already touched on the subject of building a team and getting it done ourselves, but I really feel like it’s starting to gain some traction this time.

If we are going to do the East Grandstands too, then I want enough space in my new seating area for my recliner and I want a beer tap installed.Cats92 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 12:33 pmI know we already touched on the subject of building a team and getting it done ourselves, but I really feel like it’s starting to gain some traction this time.

If we get enough people who are forklift certified and AFcat supervising from his recliner, I don’t see why we won’t be able to get both done. Just so long as his tap doesn’t run dry!coloradocat wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 12:53 pmPretty bold to put the east side stands after the IPF around these parts.Cats92 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 12:33 pmI know we already touched on the subject of building a team and getting it done ourselves, but I really feel like it’s starting to gain some traction this time.

Re: New Video Board out to bid
I am not sure of the numbers but my understanding is that the board itself was $3.5M and the install quote was just under $2M. So when you ordered the board you must have had an idea of what the install cost was. Maybe they misjudged it but by how much? Lets say they thought the install would be $1M. So you planed on spending $4.5M and now that it is $5.5M you stop the project. What? I assume you already paid for the board so at this point put it up! If you want to put the money into the Indoor Practice Facility then why did you order it in the first place? There are many campus projects going on plus you have raised around $10M for the IPF so pull a million $ out of there. It doesn't make sense to me.

Just my opinion, but unless some arrangements are made with Daktronics it is probably not the best idea to store a 3.5 million dollar piece of electronics for a year. It wont fit in your average storage unit.gtapp wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 9:48 amI am not sure of the numbers but my understanding is that the board itself was $3.5M and the install quote was just under $2M. Re: New Video Board out to bid
So, it sounds like this installation is a wash for this year? Though not a surprise to some of us, it sounds like it was to MSU. Hmmm, they have lots of experience working with projects and how cost overruns are expected and planned on, as well as availability of workers and supplies. It’s a bad look for MSU, but in the larger scheme of things it’s pretty much status quo with construction/projects these days.

I can't say it's a bad look for MSU when the 99% of fans and boosters who don't read Bobcat Nation are likely unaware that this was even supposed to be happening. A big public announcement followed by a delay would have been less than ideal.catsrback76 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 2:23 amSo, it sounds like this installation is a wash for this year? Re: New Video Board out to bid
Maybe putting a project out for bid just months before it was scheduled to be completed wasn't the best idea when construction companies can't seem to get anything done remotely on schedule these days.

Re: New Video Board out to bid
This sucks, 1. If there were pieces, parts, or equipment that were on backorder, they will probably have the same issue next year. 2. Re-bidding a projects is bad: A. Now everyone knows the contractor and his price from the first time so a low grade contractor can bid $1000 lower without having to do the work of putting together a bid (assuming a stable economy). B. This years low bidder may not bid knowing what was in A. C. With inflation at 8% or so it could cost a lot more next year and labor shortage could be worse. It could easily be $6 million in 2024 or even higher.

I was mistaken thinking that there was some announcement made. At any rate we’ve hashed this out better than the bid process!MSU01 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 5:26 amI can't say it's a bad look for MSU when the 99% of fans and boosters who don't read Bobcat Nation are likely unaware that this was even supposed to be happening. Re: New Video Board out to bid
So all my hoping for this year were wasted? Ok, I've had it, I'm officially going to find something else to get my hopes up for.
I'm not really good at this lottery thing.

What do they mean by the new one will have instant replay? Anyone know what this is and why our current scoreboard doesn’t have it??

“The display is capable of variable content zoning allowing it to show one large image or multiple zones of content…”
If I’m understanding this correctly, then this is the part I like. Sounds like the entire 30’x100’ can show just one thing, which should be great for replays, crowd shots and introductions. Hopefully this feature is utilized a lot.
