Here are two names I have heard from multiple sources. I do not know if they are shortlisted or not.

Ben Mccollum Head coach at Northwest Missouri State University (D2)
Cody Toppert an assistant coach at LSU

Well, Leon's definitely doing his job well if he has a 4x D-II national champion coach interested. Toppert's resume is also quite intriguing and varied.

Would be nice to see some midwest players, especially K.C. kids.

If McCollum is a candidate, that would be a big hire! Go on you tube and listen to his story and philosophy, especially about his view on the transfer portal.

Reading up a bit on McCollum it's pretty shocking to me that he hasn't moved up to the Division 1 level yet. Looks like he calls himself a defensive coach but his offenses are consistently ranked #1 in all divisions in efficiency. I suppose the question mark would be that he has been a D-II coach for his entire career and how well he could recruit at the D-I level. But damn, that resume is impressive.

He sounds like a man of conviction and knows his system inside and out. That is old school compared to now a days where they just reload with new names from a variety of schools. People like that succeed because they have a process they trust. Coach Hiatt is a lot that way also, he recruits certain qualities that fit his style and passes on kids that don’t. I like the idea of developing loyalty and commitment.

Tobin Anderson with Fairleigh Dickinson was D2. 1 year 21-16 record(after tourne), gets in to tourney on fluke wins and cashes in going to Iona after 1 year. You would expect someone like that to stay. Shows D2 guy can move up, but culture has really shifted to striking while iron is hot. For comparison he only made $40,000 at FDU. Went to Iona to replace Pitino who made $612,000.

Talking with some friends in the Big Sky coaching tree there is a huge fear of McCollum making his way to Bozeman if he were to take the job. He is a future super star at the high major D1 level and would be a MASSIVE get for MSU.

I absolutely agree. I am not as connected as you, but my conversations with people who follow closely all say the same thing, let’s keep our fingers crossed. IN LEON, WE TRUST!!

Some Saturday afternoon reading for you regarding the most prominent (and only) head coaching opening in #BigSkyMBB:

Search to replace Sprinkle is underway for Montana State men’s hoops

McCollum is rumored to be headed to Texas Tech as an assistant, but reading the tea leaves the fact that it hasn’t happened could mean he’s waiting to see about the MSU job.

My vote is Capko or McCollum. Miller has moved around alot. Like 1 year stints multiple places other than the 4 years at NMST.

I haven't read much on McCollum. Are you guys saying he doesn't like the transfer portal? I don't know if that's a feasible attitude today. Look how many of the best players in the big sky are not in the portrai.

It's awesome Shaka Smart says good things about him.

My guess is at D2 level he didn’t need to use it. it is at D1 level a tool to get to get better but he would rather develop kids over the long term and get kids committed to the program for four or five years.

Well after reading Colter’s article, sounds like McCollum may be a reach.

McCollum won the national championship several times but one year the opposing coach in the championship game was the Idaho State head coach.

Another name I've also heard is Matt Logie. He is the head coach at Pt. Loma. Believe he is the other candidate now against Lapko.
