Defensive Coordinator

Post by 2005Grad » Tue Jan 11, 2022 4:29 pm

Now that the season is over, when do we think we will find out who the new Defensive Coordinator will be?

Cat-Griz Saturday is my favorite day of the year.

Maybe they'll pull the offer after watching Saturday's game and we keep him.. Just a joke.

Some people are a lot like slinkies....... Not really good for much, but it puts a smile on your face to watch them fall down a set of stairs.

Banks was an asset all year, suprised he was offered a FBS DC after 1 year in a FCS program as DC. It would have be interesting to see if a 5 man front was even talked about before the game. 1 more guy to eat up a block, possibly slow their rushing attack. Already looking forward to next season

I hear Jeff Fisher is interested.

While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."

He is going to go coach with the coach he was with a year ago. Makes perfect sense and a huge pay increase.

Did realize he had previous tied. 110% understand the pay increase, what we saw this year IMO was a step up from 2019. Choate got all the guys, Banks made them better.

While I would like to see us promote from within house, I wonder if one year is enough for Coach Vigen to feel comfortable enough to promote Bobby Daily? Howe is a young guy and probably has a better overall grasp of the defense Coach Vigen wants to run. I believe if they are in house they may stay longer than one and done. I certainly don't blame Coach Banks for taking off, but consistency would be nice.

If they want long continuity, probably best to go off and hire some older dude that is tired of moving around and just wants to settle down. These young guys are almost always going to be looking to move up for the bigger bucks.

It would be nice if we could get a DC who has held the position before. We're good enough that we don't need to be taking chances on someone that's never done it. It worked out great this season but that doesn't mean it would again. There have to be a few really good FCS DCs that would love to work on a team that will be going to the playoffs at a minimum every year.

There’s one on the current coaching staff, fwiw.

Yep. We can throw out all the names of ex-Bobcat players and experienced DCs we want but I'll be very surprised if the hire isn't Howe, Daly, or someone from outside the program with a prior connection to Coach Vigen.

Ty Gregorak? It was a big surprise when Choate let him go. His defenses were always tough.

Who on the current staff has been a DC before?

Quit living in the past. Coach Ty is gone. Coach Vigen has a system that he wants to play and he will hire the best coach capable of running it.

He is a DC who has had success and isn’t coaching currently. I’m not living in the past. Just throwing a name out there like everyone else. Speculation. I wouldn’t be for or against his hiring.
