That sucks, but I honestly saw this coming. Vigen did well to keep as many staff from Choate's crew as possible. It was an honorable thing to do as these guys were really left on an island. My assumption is that BJ has found a better fit. I guess we'll need to wait to see if there's some rationale. My guess is that other Choate guys will follow. Some are probably finding things better under Vigen, but I assume others do not. Just the way it goes. BJ did a great job here and he'll be missed. Great, great in-state recruiter. Perhaps the best to ever grace the state.

This stinks. I think he did a good job of developing rapport with players and this will hurt our in-state recruiting. That said, I wish him the best.

Wow, this loss hurts. Did not see this one coming. Who would be a good replacement? Is there anyone else in Montana that knows the State and has the relationships that he has? He will be tough to replace.

Big loss in recruiting. Hopefully this is a one-off and the rest of the staff stays intact.

I wonder if Bryce Leighton considers leaving. He had some big accolades and offers and now the HC and ST coaches he signed with are gone.

Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

Let me start off by saying I think BJ is a tremendous coach, has helped MSU a lot, and will be hard to replace.

With that said, 90% of kids from Montana know where they want to play of the offers are equal. I don’t think we’ll see a plethora of kids choosing UM because of this.

Thanks and good luck BJ.

I think Daly could take over as the MT point man. Excited to see who they bring in for ST.

I would be in touch with Troy Purcell immediately.

Sounds like he wanted to get into teaching and coaching in the high school ranks.

Sorry to see him leave, he was a big part of the coaching team IMO.

With how little some of these assistants get paid, you have to wonder (depending on his teaching credentials) if he might make more teaching and coaching in high school.

Best of luck coach!

It’s probably close salary wise, you can live in a cheaper area, and work less.

He stated he’s pursuing opportunities outside of coaching football. Best of luck!

After years of the college football grid, I can see teaching and possibly coaching would be a nice change of pace. Sucks to see him go, thanks for all you did for MSU FB!

Nuts. I don’t think it’s so much that he kept players from going to the griz as many already know better than that. But I think he got some players to stay in-state that had out-of-state possibilities. Troy Andersen, Brody Grebe, and Kenneth Eiden IV come to mind. I’m sure there are others. Gonna miss him. Team attitude might have gotten too serious, not fun. Businesslike — wasn’t Rob Ash criticized for being too cool and calm? Isn’t there a middle ground between cucumber and maniac? I did love Choate’s passion, and I’ll bet BJ misses his friend.

I had already forgotten that Padmos was number five in the country in net punting. That’s quite an accomplishment. And that Kassis was number five in return yards. Both huge!

A lot more stability as well unless you’re a dumpster fire as a HS coach. Builds up a nice retirement more than chasing college coaching jobs all over the country every 4-5 years, as most assistants end up doing be it climbing the ladder or being part of a fired staff.

Seattle to Billings to Missoula to Bozeman to Portland to Billings

What a ride
