UM loses to SAC

Post by TomCat88 » Mon Mar 08, 2021 10:53 pm

SAC came in with only two wins, but knock off UM, 65-58. SAC plays MSU tomorrow night. UM was up 7 after one, but SAC outscored them by 14 the rest of the way. UM was 4 of 31 shooting 3s.

SAC isn't a team anyone should overlook though. They lost a lot of close games, including one to MSU just last week. Best 3-win team in the nation?

Sac is weird to watch, they seem to be fully aware they're going to throw up a bunch of missed 3's and have a bad shooting percentage, but hope to draw their opponent into the same type of game. UM obliged and went 4-31 on 3's last night with two of those coming in the last minutes when the game was pretty much already decided. It would take an unmitigated disaster for MSU to put up that kind of shooting performance - it almost happened last Thursday but I doubt it'll happen twice.

As fun as it would be to laugh and point fingers, I'm out. We have to play this team tonight and I'm feeling rather uneasy about the situation.

The exodus would have been worse if she had been retained, as it was they lost a 2021 first team Big Sky player when Harington left. I 'don't remember if there were others that left or not.
Here's a quote from an interview she gave, "I just feel so much more confident and relaxed. Not only am I getting coached by awesome coaches, but they are also great people outside of basketball, too. The coaching staff sets a huge example of what great leadership should be like."

Don't know if she meant it but it sure sounded like a pointed dig at her previous coaching staff.

UM's bread and butter was Montana players for years. It isn't that Selvig left or that Shannon was fired. They kept going after Montana girls, but the Montana girls, like Montana boys previously, started to fade relative to the skills of players in the region and country. Kids just don't play basketball that much in Montana once they get out of middle school. We also don't play a brand of basketball that is conducive to playing in college with the lack of a shot clock being a big contributor to that.

In the men's first round, UNCO beat Sac St by 7.Insane shooting for both from the field, 55.7% for the Hornets (34-61) but the Bears were hotter at 56.7% (34-60). From three point range Sac was 7-10 but UNCO was 13-20. FTs Sac hit 8-13 and UNCO hit 9-19. Bears out rebounded Sac 34-19.

NAU took PSU in the second game 77-66. NAU had a big lead till late, as much as 22...

They shot the lights out, 27-46/58.7% from the field and 12-16/75.0% from beyond the arc... But were 11-24 from the free throw line. Only spot PSU shined was at the FT line, 22-26/84.6%.

This right here is why Dave Dickensen will never come back to coach at um. You all would f--- him up beyond recognition for not delivering as many titles as NDSU.
