And Grand canyon University will also have an announcement. Lots of speculation that they would be the 8th football member.

Still waiting on Weber and NAU as possible additional members.

Individual teams need an invitation to move up from FCS to and FBS conference. Does a conference need some type of invitation to move itself up from FCS to FBS? That's where all the money is and it's my understanding (could very well be wrong) that part of why the Group of 5 is so enticing is that they get revenue distributions from the Power 5. I assume a new G5 conference would either cost the P5 more money or dilute pool of distributed money. Since one of these two things would happen do the FBS conference have to approve a new member conference?

Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

I wondered if Grand Canyon would start a football program through all this talk. They have ridiculous amounts of money and could probably have a fantastic stadium and facilities in no time.

University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, a current WAC member, sent a letter of intent to begin an FCS Football program within 5 years. Target date is 2023 but will start not later than 2024.
And they will have a WAC-East and WAC-West.

Official Discussion
- FCS to be the among the top in FCS.
- Basketball top 12 Conference
- Olympic Sports - broken into Southwest and East
- 6 Texas Schools
- 5 additions to Football, 4 Texas and SUU effective 1 Jul 2021.
-University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to add football.

And chicago state is leaving in 2022.

Shoot, Southern Utah was my favorite away game to attend. Fly to Vegas, take the bus to the game with bloody marys and a stop at the liquor store in Mesquite, bus back to Vegas.....cocktails!!

I hope Dixie State honors their contract, we were scheduled to to their in '23 or '24.

I would assume SUU is going to be treated like UND was when they left because the BSC schedule is done through 2023. There's no way they get out of their BSC schedule this year for sure.

BSC assisted UND in working on their transfer and greatly assisted them. I expect the same with SUU.

Right, but didn't they play 2 years of "conference play" that didn't actually count for them?

I believe that was also because MVFC said they wouldn't change their schedule to accommodate the more for two years. But yes, it was a BSC move that they couldn't win the conference autobid.

Just 90 minutes up I-15 from Mesquite for us. Rats. We went to see the MSU women’s basketball team play there in March, just before everything got shut down. Honestly, when we moved here one of the plus marks was the proximity to SUU and watching the Bobcats. I’m surprised, and obviously on a personal basis, disappointed.

So what is the lure for SUU? Money? Possibility of moving up to FBS?

1. Basketball
2. Possible FBS in the future.
3. Not playing Montana State or UM in conference play.
4. Not playing in Montana or eastern washington in Nov.
5. Shorter travel and better air fair connections.
6. Playing in texas in November.

Good list but they are not going FBS regardless of their stated goal. I'd add that Dixie State is a big attraction.

I can’t wrap my head around them being an FBS team. Aren’t there attendance requirements, etc.? Southern Utah has an enrollment of 11,000 in a town of 35,000 in a county of 54,000. The area is growing rapidly, but nothing just seems to say FBS. I thought it was a stretch when they moved to the Big Sky with FCS, but they’ve done okay some of the time. They sponsor 6 men’s teams and 9 women’s teams. I know FBS applies to the football program, but when I think of that designation I think of a school particularly in a much bigger city. I agree, proximity to Dixie State may be a strong attraction. But it’s a long way to Texas to play volleyball, just like it is to Portland State. I guess after all the travails of the WAC, I’ll believe it when and if I see it.
