Just curious, but do you think Trump was speaking of the 200 idiots that broke into the Capitol, or the 10,000 people that were protesting peacefully outside?

And as a person that is ready to see Trump move out, I am not trying to defend him, but want to show how inflammatory and misleading these statements can be.
Ha ha... ya. Trump can be a douche but he certainly wan't talking to these fools with those comments. Hence why he said to march down and protest but be peaceful and follow the law.

At this point I don't trust anything Trump says. He could admit to making up the whole election fraud thing, molesting women, being a racist and throwing himself to the mercy of the courts, and I would think something's up. Maybe that's just me. Maybe I have Trump Derangement Syndrome, but I think of it as Trump Enlightenment Syndrome, which is where you can see right through his B.S.

That said, when Trump told the folks, all 10,200(?) of them, to go home I'm positive he had seen that violence and vandalism (desecration) were happening, since I saw it. He's the president, so I think we can all agree that he knew something more than just protesting was happening, since 10 of millions of people were watching it happen. He then said, "we love you. You're very special." Based on what I've observed over the past 4 years with him in office and the previous 30-40 years, I'd say that he was talking to all of them. Had he wanted to single out the more violent characters, he certainly could have. If it were any other president I'd be shocked if they didn't. He later said (and I'm sure he was advised to do so, which means he was talked into it after several hours) that those people will be caught and prosecuted, which would've been the perfect thing for him to say instead of "we love you. You're very special."

Anyway, I'm sure that makes me a TDS sufferer, so nothing to see here. Just another far left, liberal, socialist, tree-hugger on welfare looking for a handout. \:D/

What a fiasco. I will be curious if the charges stick on the perpetrators. I mean we saw that rioters over the summer were regularly released with no charges. Now that these are Trump supporters being prosecuted, what do you think will happen to them?

I doubt it since they set a precedence with the summer rioters. Unless they decide that these people were trying to overturn the constitution, but that will be hard to prove. Who knows maybe the election was rigged, so they may just heroes.

Hopefully, time in Federal prison and fines for damages. Pretty sure that since they are Trump supporters there will be extensive investigations to find them, even if it takes years and tens of millions of dollars. As long as they get a fair trial, I don't care how much it costs or how long it takes. Every one of them who entered the Capitol with destructive intent should be prosecuted.

I agree. I think anybody who destroyed property should be held accountable - including the rioters this summer.

We shall see. I fully expect these rioters this week will get the book thrown at them. And you are right that they set a precedence this summer, but that won’t be applied here. I expect the difference in treatment will be very obvious.

And wondering what the reaction might be if members of the Presidents staff and the Vice President were to fund their bail, legal fees, etc?

Ok this guy gets it. Tom Rice (R) from SC had no obvious political motivation to make these comments and vote in support of impeachment, but this gives me hope the GOP has a chance to NOT lose contested elections for the next 20 years.

"Once the violence began, when the Capitol was under siege, when the Capitol Police were being beaten and killed, and when the Vice President and the Congress were being locked down, the President was watching and tweeted about the Vice President's lack of courage.

"For hours while the riot continued, the President communicated only on Twitter and offered only weak requests for restraint ...

"... It has been a week since so many were injured, the United States Capitol was ransacked, and six people were killed, including two police officers. Yet, the President has not addressed the nation to ask for calm. He has not visited the injured and grieving. He has not offered condolences. Yesterday in a press briefing at the border, he said his comments were 'perfectly appropriate.'"

I understand Trump made comments after this vote, and that was a very good message from Trump (albeit late, and seemingly reactive on the impeachment vote).

I really hope this isn't true (a serious assault on our Government and democracy), but if it is there needs to be serious jail time!
