The biggest sigh of relief is likely coming from the Bobcat assistant coaches. They are the ones who suffer the most when a head coach leaves.

This article quotes the Boise paper as saying “has hired.” It’ll take the lawyers awhile to get it all done.Montanabob wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 5:06 pmFunny thing is that if you look at all sources, they all say they expect him to be hired, not that he was hired.Bobcat4Ever wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 5:04 pmReport: Boise State to hire Oregon's Andy Avalos over MSU's Jeff Choate as football coach

Yes, nothing is official yet. So we aren't completely out of the woods yet.

Not all of them. The rest are out of a job at least temporarily.Cat4LifeHouseDivided wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 5:18 pmHow is that? Alot of assistants tend to follow the head coach.

The number of assistants who follow is a minority. And a new coach wants to put his stamp on the program by choosing his staff.

I decided to get off my duff and do some research on my own question. The last five HCs have moved on to a P5 HC position.

Certainly Choate has earned a pay raise out of this, right?

Definitely some big exposure for MSU, which doesn’t hurt. And choate stays here. Win-win!

Unfinished business indeed! Really hope that he can hang some championship banners before his time as MSU Football HC is over.
Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

For what? Not getting hired somewhere else? He's a great coach but we don't have to throw money at him every time someone else notices.

I agree. If he had been offered and turned them down you MIGHT be able to make some sort of argument. But that is not what happened.coloradocat wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 6:33 pmFor what? I don't man-- after what he's put us through this last week, I would definitely enjoy hucking a roll of nickels at him.coloradocat wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 6:33 pmFor what? Not getting hired somewhere else? He's a great coach but we don't have to throw money at him every time someone else notices.

Choate signed a contract extension just last March. I guess we can pass the hat and send him some cash. I'm in!

Um, not sure I’m buying this one.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 4:44 pmI personally believe Coach is destined for greater things than Boise State. Boise has been great no doubt, but I think coach is going to land a P5 job when he leaves MSU. And you know he is going to be even more motivated to get this team to the top now!!!

Re: Choate to interview for Boise State job
I agree. It would be a huge leap to go directly from FCS to a HC job at a P5 school. He may get a gig like that eventually, but not without an intermediate step of some sort. Either a HC at a G5 FBS school, or a coordinator job at a P5 school.1984champ wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 6:51 pmUm, not sure I’m buying this one.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 4:44 pmI personally believe Coach is destined for greater things than Boise State. We dodged a bullet today, but the cats outa the bag. He's looking to move up - so next year we'll be having the same discussion.
Biggest concern I have is what this does to the player morale. Word is the last few days that the players were real scared. Afraid our leader may lose some cred in the locker room.

Ditto. Even BSU would've been a big job to coach and compete. P5 maybe as an asst next.1984champ wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 6:51 pmUm, not sure I’m buying this one.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 4:44 pmI personally believe Coach is destined for greater things than Boise State.
