WBB vs. South Dakota State
Good test for the Lady Cats today at noon against SDSU.
Some people may not have SDSU Womens BB as a basketball powerhouse on their radar but here are a couple comments that might help understand strength of their program.
In last 10 years they have been to the WNIT twice and NCAA tourney eight times. In 2014, they made it to the semifinals of the WNIT with 4 wins over Butler, Creighton, Minnesota and Indiana. In their 8 appearances in the NCAA tourney they have 4 first round wins all against top 25 ranked teams (#11, #5, #10, #3). Last year they played the tourney (18-19 season) made it to the Sweet 16 with two wins in the tourney with an ultimate loss to Oregon in their Sweet 16 game. They were ranked #1 as a mid-major and ranked in top 25 against all the schools last year.
This year they are 5-2 with wins against Creighton, Iowa State, Gonzaga, Drake, and Missouri State. Three of those teams were ranked in the top 25 at the time they played. SDSU was ranked in top 25 this season also until losses to Kansas State and Northern Iowa. Last I saw I believe they are still ranked #2 at mid-major level (but could have fallen after their losses).
The above is just to illustrate the quality of the opponent we are up against today. A win against a quality opponent like this would be a boost for a young team like we have this year!

Or just South Dakota.
We've got our hands full in this one. SDSU is what we want to be. Super efficient, good shooters, solid in all positions, and good offensive rebounders. They're picking us apart pretty good right now, but we're still sort of in it.

Darian doing her best imitation of Allen Iverson to keep us in it. We even got the lead for a few seconds. Then Darian sat down towards the end of the half and SDSU went on a run. We're down 35-31 at the half.
The biggest problem I see is SDSU is getting too many extra shots by getting offensive rebounds.

Yep. SDSU is well disciplined. Seem to always be in right position. Offensive rebounds hurting us.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 2:03 pmDarian doing her best imitation of Allen Iverson to keep us in it. We even got the lead for a few seconds. Nice to see the ladies keep getting back in it. Down by 12 then claw back to within 5 midway in Q3.

We look like we are going to get close and then SDSU goes on a run. Well prepared team.

Re: WBB vs. South Dakota State
Continue to see a lot of positives on this team. Some moments of brilliance by different members of the group including freshmen.....then some youthful errors..... rebounding, moving feet on defense, offensive movement. It’s going to get there!!!
Liked Skye and Koala making inside moves...it’s coming. Nice to see Beattie have a good game. Tori shoots 50% from 3 range again...4 of 8.

Re: WBB vs. South Dakota State
MSU played them pretty well. Late run in the third was tough on them. SDSU is very good. Almost all of their players are from SD or neighboring states. Good women's basketball all through that area. Good in Utah and Idaho, too.
MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Does anyone know why Madison isn't dressing out?
