Zac Evans of Helena High has verballed to UM.
My guess is he'll develop as a defensive tackle or fullback. He is certainly not a FCS linebacker but I think there could be something there on the defensive line.

I have watched Taco in a couple of games this year, and he is an absolute game changer. You will hear his name all game during the AA state championship next week. He is having just as much impact on this season as current MSU commit Neil Daily.

I know he is a 2022 recruit. Just have to put this somewhere.

I am admittedly a Cat homer, but doesn’t it look like the Cats clearly have the better in-state recruiting Class? Here is an article with both programs Montana recruits and how they fared this past season. I would classify at least 3 of the Griz commits as “developmental prospects” based on their production this season.

What is the story on Junior Bergen? I figured he would have committed somewhere already.

No, Junior already has multiple offers. Air Force Academy, MSU, um, and NAU.

That makes sense, but isn’t that the definition of developmental?

I’d say it’s pretty even with the Cats having a slight edge. I guess I wasn’t blown away by the “stats production” from any of the recruits on either side. There are some big numbers there for 1-2 kids but nothing mind blowing in my opinion. I tend to base it off what jumps off their film or watching them live. Eiden is obviously a beast and I love what I see out of Daily too. Those two are gonna be good football players. But I also think Klucewich and Sirmon (recent Griz commit) also jump off the screen a bit. And that Detrick looks like a man amongst boys. I think we both have some studs and some projects for sure.

MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

At the moment, Dylan will be choosing between Oregon State, BYU, and now Minnesota. Not that they weren't already but the chances of him going to MSU are almost nonexistent. Awesome to see a talented MT product get his due with FBS recruitment. Many before him have not.

I hope he picks the Gophers over OSU and BYU. Minnesota is down from a very good season last year, but I think they'll continue to improve under Fleck. I don't see OSU doing much and BYU is good at times, but not a mainstream school.

Yeah. I would say with very rare exception, every Montana recruit is very developmental. The differences in training, and nutrition, is pretty extreme. Plus competition level.

There’s a lot of reasons scouting stats in MT is difficult. You have teams that run the Wing-T, which just doesn’t translate to college. The running stats are extreme, the passing stats are non-existent. That’s just one example.

So that’s why I say you scout traits more than stats. Are they athletic? Does that show up on tape? Are they instinctive? Do they produce on tape when given the chance? Are the players around them a lot better than the opposing team? Are the players around them a lot worse than the opposing team? Are they playing the same position they will in college? Do they have the size to realistically succeed at the next level? Lot of variables. Very difficult.

This is exactly why MSU got a generational talent like Troy Andersen. The obscurity of hidden diamonds like him works to the advantage of both schools sometimes...

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.
