Fall Semester Dates
MSU Just posted on their facebook site that classes will start 8/17 and the semester will conclude 11/25. Spring semester starts 1/11/2021. Wow!
I should note, this is based on guidance from the Board of Regents and the Commissioner of Higher Education. I'd imagine all state schools will have a similar schedule.
It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

What's the rationale for starting so early? Getting ahead of flu season? Is there something obvious I'm missing?

I think the big thing is to avoid people going home (out of state) over thanksgiving and coming back. Also, avoiding peak flu season was mentioned, as well as taking advantage of warm weather where people can spread out and not be cooped up in their apartment/room/library, etc.kennethnoisewater wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2020 11:58 amWhat's the rationale for starting so early? Re: Fall Semester Dates
Makes sense. Love that they're applying some practicality to things. That has to be like moving heaven and earth to pull off a change like that, and I commend the university/BOR for doing what they needed to do. It'll be interesting how many kids can't pull it off because of harvests, summer jobs, etc.wbtfg wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2020 12:04 pmI think the big thing is to avoid people going home (out of state) over thanksgiving and coming back. Re: Fall Semester Dates
Per Keci report yesterday UM will be done by 11/25 too.
Not unexpected because MUS has kept all schools the same.
No announcement or official start dates... letter said tba.

Re: Fall Semester Dates
Its probably a good idea overall, but its going to affect alot of summer jobs, esp. internships. And its going to upset a lot of folks who have summer vacations planned in August (which is alot of people since most are waiting to take vacations as late as possible with the COVID situation).
