2020 Season
How do you guys think this virus pandemic plays out, concerning the 2020 season?
Spring practices are postponed, correct?
Summer practices are: who knows.
I’ve heard speculation that non-conference games will be canceled if not the entire season. I find that very hard to believe that that is being discussed at this point.

Re: 2020 Season
I think the key will be after they get a handle on it, will they be able to quickly snuff out any minor outbreaks. Assuming they get a handle on it this summer. However, if an outbreak happens within a team there’s a good chance that team and whoever they played recently calls it a season.
Tough to say.

If we “get a handle” on it, what would differentiate the way we approach it compared to influenza or another virus? I have questions about the caution we will take going forward.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 6:45 pmI think the key will be after they get a handle on it, will they be able to quickly snuff out any minor outbreaks. Remember about 10 years ago when most of our team had the flu for that trip to EWU?

Holy overreaction Batman! Give this thing 3 months and it will have run it's course, just like it's doing in China right now. They are on the back side of the curve now, which is where we should be come mid-June. RELAX people, quit speculating and adding to the Hysteria...
Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

I’m not overreacting to anything. Simply posed a question to see what others are thinking. To be honest, I laughed when it was suggested that football would be curtailed if not canceled.grizzh8r wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 9:14 pmHoly overreaction Batman! Re: 2020 Season
I don’t think you were overreacting. Trump, who is possibly the most informed person in the USA, says July-August and he was about as skeptical as anyone at the beginning. Practice is supposed to start in early August. Montana is more isolated and less populated, so that might help slow the spread and intensity here, but there are games outside of Montana and that might come into play.94VegasCat wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 9:22 pmI’m not overreacting to anything. I didn’t think the state basketball tournaments would be stopped. So that taught me to not be sure about anything. I also learned long ago not to trust the Chinese government or it’s state run media. They didn’t inform others about their problem for who knows how long.

Re: 2020 Season
I have been wondering about how not having spring ball is going to affect football rosters. Don't coaches use spring ball to "weed out" some of the players and open roster spots in the fall?

Re: 2020 Season
Good point, wonder if the spring practice is shifted to a condensed late spring or early summer practice. That would throw a wrench in possible summer transfers. Too many unknowns right now. Let's just hope this fall goes on as planned.

I don’t see anyone overreacting in this thread. Your reaction to what people are saying here is the closest thing to an overreaction.grizzh8r wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 9:14 pmHoly overreaction Batman! Fact is no one knows, so just about any speculation good or bad is in play. The worst is supposed to be over by August. But the vaccines being tested won’t have results for a year or more.

Re: 2020 Season
Our first game is against Long Island University, whose team is mostly made up of guys from the greater New York City and New Jersey areas.
That's certainly another variable to consider as they are in the epicenter of this thing.

No practice, very limited weight room and training...the season will have to be delayed, or there will be many injury issues.

Interesting article today in the Chronicle in which Coach Choate downplays the benefit of spring practice, especially compared to
the early drills in fall.

Re: 2020 Season
I've heard similar from coaches over the years. I would assume that if we're at the back end of this in a couple months, and the kids have all summer to work out, and fall practices, they should be relatively up to speed by the time the season starts.
This is as fascinating to me as the economic discussions regarding this virus. Peoples opinions are all over the board. Some think sports will be canceled all together for the entire year. Others seem to think that by the time August and September rolls around it will be business as usual. Going to be a very interesting few months.

Choate has never been a fan of spring ball.

No, but he is a fan of the team being in the gym right now. Guys are gonna come in out of shape, not as strong as they should be.
