So, it wouldn't be a proper signing day if we didn't decide who won the state! On paper who had the better class of in-state kids; us or the griz?
On average four Montana players become starters per year. Based on that and Vim’s picks, MSU is the winner.
I think Connor Ryan is the most athletic player and is most likely to become a starter due to his versatility.
MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

He's starting out at safety, and I think he stays there bc he's good at it, and we need the numbers there.

Nice to speculate on who had the better signing class this year, but taking a look back at the past four years would be better. What recruits from Montana made an impact for their respective teams?

I'm going to put out a recap on the 2015 Montana Recruits (Jesse Sims, Mitch Brott, Brayden Konkol, Colin Bingham, etc.). I'll talk about how their careers played out and give some info on the non-Cat/Griz kids who put together great careers like Cain Boschee (Dickinson State) and Jayce Gilder (EWU).

Trey is in the Semifinals for Heavyweight Class B-C today, good chance he'll win State.

Got upset 1-0 by junior Mayson Phipps of Glasgow in the semifinals this morning. Trey won't get to defend his 2019 State B-C Hwt title against Huntley Project's Journey Grimsrud (who he defeated last year for the title). If Mayson beats both Trey and Journey, it will be pretty damn impressive.
Oh by the way, Mayson is a top football recruit in 2021 out of Montana.

Thanks for the update, saw he made Semifinals, but haven't seen the results. The kid has huge future ahead of him, hopefully he finishes strong and places 3rd.

This kid gave one of the most interesting and best interviews of this series. A ton of upside.

I had a friend from Butte describe Mellott as the next Dave Dickenson. Now this guy, is highly involved in Butte sports and knows his stuff and his Butte history. I was pretty excited to hear that comparison, because Mellott is special and we just have to give him time to adjust to the Big Sky.
I am from Butte (graduated in '91 from Great Falls). I watched Tommy pretty close, and I watched Dave really, really close back in the day. I too compare Tommy to Dave. Style of play maybe not so much; but character, smarts, work ethic, toughness are something that they really share. They both have the "it" factor, but yet modest and extremly grounded. Never satisfied. Obviously Dave is 100% proven, and Tommy is not yet, but I'd be willing to bet that Dave wouldnt be upset by me making this comparison.
Edit* forgot the most important. Undisputed Leader
Had to bump this regarding the comparison of Mellott to Dickenson on the other thread. The guys in Butte recognized his potential years ago.

Great use of the bump
