Resting

Post by rtb » Mon Oct 18, 2004 5:18 pm

I was wondering if this would be a good game to rest some of the players that are banged up. Resting starters wouldn't hurt us as long as we win out the conference. Tough call, I have a hard time measuring the importance of this game for us.

I think we need to treat this as if it were another conference game. Lose this game and chances of an at-large playoff bid drop to zero.

Exactly MSU01, as do our chances of hosting a playoff game. We still need this one and unless we somehow find a great first half offense and go up early I think we see the starters play this one all the way.

Out of Playoffs

Post by rtb » Mon Oct 18, 2004 5:38 pm

Yes, I agree that we need this to host a game and to have a shot at automatic if we don't win the BSC. I guess my only thought is based on hearing about being banged up and injuries without seeing the team play since week 1. I hope the injuries and players playing hurt sound worse on paper than they are.

Having the team build a lead in the first half and being able to rest would be a dream, but I won't hold my breath on that one.

I believe this is what NDSU's coach said before the game.

Either team will have to play all around solid to win.

You guys have done a pretty good job of scouting the Jackrabbits. The secondary needed a game under their belt to gel. Thus we got tourched by UC-Davis. Since then they have been ok. We are strong against the run.

The offense we like to throw and have a good running game. Special teams has been a sore spot however with a off week maybe we have our issues solved on kick and punt coverage. Our kicker is a true Freshmen who turned down a chance to play for Nebraska (wanted to kick this season) He broke a record that even Adam Vinatieri (New England Kicker and former Jackrabbit) didn't break, 6 FG in a game. If it comes down to a FG I like our chances.

Should be a great game. Wish I could be there, but I will be listening on line in Kansas City.

-- Looking at both teams they finish well, MSU as come from behind last three games to win.
-- The Jacks come from 21 down on the ROAD against Southern (La) and at home against the Nodak Bouffalos. Had two 4th down conversion in that last drive against Nodak. Need I say, we had our chances at Poly, but we didn't do it.

-- Passing game even, meat & tados for both teams. MSU ranked #34 in 1AA, SDSU ranked #37 in 1AA.

--Running game , SDSU may hold a slight edge. MSU ranked #98 in 1AA, SDSU ranked #70 in 1AA. bal game could hold key.

--Defenses seem even, SDSU may be a tad bigger, MSU a little faster. Should even out. Both teams well conditioned

--MSU home field adv.

Should be a great game, I think teams who grabs game in the third will win out. SDSU is a little more balance, that may hold the adv in 2nd half.

Kid Dakota,

It's DI or DI-AA, not D1 or D1-AA. Here's some background if you want to read why- http://www.i-aa.com/news/article_4.shtml

Also, remember to throw 'State' in there when talking about NDSU. I'm sure you would take offense if I referred to the Bunnies from USD.

Boy took you a while to reach back for that one, but hey let us keep it in the here and now. You only need to go back two weeks and tell me the score of that game

But this is the Montana kittycat board, they are now on the Rabbit Radar. We must prepare to dismantle them Sat. I have already had my fill of buffalo stew. :D

Why doesn't everyone refer to us as kittys or kittycats. Kittys can be mean little hairballs. They scratch you up good!

Funny how these threads take shape. This one took a SD vs. ND theme.

My money is on the Cats this weekend. SDSU will have a tough time on a hostile Bozeman field.

It should definately be a good game. I foresee another comeback win, but we only get down by a touchdown.

With regards to if we will be resting anyone this game, listening to the Sports Nuts interview with Kramer just now and Kramer stated he feels it will be a very close game and that they will be not be holding anyone or anything back. He also made mention of the fact that he is winless at MSU against Great West teams, from the sounds of it, he wants this one and hopefully that will come through the players on the field as well.
