Do you really think Erickson and Coach Choate would be able to coexist? :-k
Nope. Erickson couldn't do it.
Just like Beltran should have been starting this year right?

Does this departure have any effect on the current or incoming RB we have?
Sometimes when a coach would keep the glue together for kids. Once a coach leaves, maybe players opt to leave as well.

If you have a strong culture, kids will commit to the program and not the coach that recruited or coached them. However, if this was like...year 2 of Choate, I would be more worried about this than I am going into year 5.

Denarius did reignite our Texas pipeline so we will have to see what Choate comes up with for that area.

Maybe McGhee can help us with some dropdowns from the Texans.

It's a joke.

I think he could. There was some of that talk when Erickson took the co-OC job at Utah, with him having a much more extensive HC resume than Wit. And Coach Wit is a pretty bull-headed HC, no doubt who is in charge. But Dennis did very well, IMO, in bringing along a young OC and they had decent success, playing for a Pac12 Championship. Dennis took on his role well, which was a bit more "advisor" and mentor kind of role, similar to what he could provide to the Bobcats if all things came together.

I heard JJ Watt is in the Transfer Portal after losing to the Chiefs.

I agree....Dennis Erickson would not be a good fit at playing running back.

As good as the running back group has done under DMac, as a recruiter he's been top notch. That may be missed and harder to replace. Having former players on the coaching staff just seems like a huge bonus. And we still have some fortunately, but as excited as I am for this opportunity for him, it's still a little sad.

So on this note... how does a coach get picked by an NFL team? Obviously players go through tryouts, but what's the way for a coach? Doubtful McGee answered a help wanted ad, Haha. Please forgive my ignorance, but I'm just wondering if anyone knows the process.

Denarius was a offensive grad assistant at NC State for a few years. Then transition to MSU with QBs and RBs for three years. NFL teams hiring analysts on offense, defense, or special teams take applications and go through a hiring process just like any other job available. Denarius is a young coach looking to get more experience on running an offense and gaining game-planning knowledge. An offensive analyst or quality control coach is a good avenue for that, whether it be at the NFL or FBS level.

He's interviewed with NFL teams before.

He's pretty well thought of in the industry.

The role he's taking is a young man's game. Tons of hours breaking down film and tendencies. If you ever get a chance, look at how Belichick wants his analysts to break down plays. It's absolutely insane.

If Houston at all regresses next year, Bill O’Brien’s chair gets very warm. Could very well be a one- or two-year stop for McGhee.

I wish nothing but the best for DM. He has been a stellar ambassador for MSU.

He also greased the skids in 2018 by being selected to be part of an NFL fellowship program that had him get exposure with the Chiefs.

..... “I think it says a lot about the staff we’ve assembled here, that they already have résumés that are resonating at the NFL level,” Bobcats head coach Jeff Choate said. “A lot of times it’s kind of an entry level into NFL coaching opportunities.”
