How do you guard anyone anymore? They dribble into your chest, you keep your hands straight up and still get called for a foul.

Good win! Should beat them at home though. 66 - 51 final.

Nice comfortable wins for both the men's and women's teams over Sac State. The women really ran away from them.

The zone worked really good against Sac-who don't appear to have a lot of outside fire power. Patton is a load and I was worried not having Kirby. Both teams played mostly zone in the second half and we just stretched it out as the half wore on.

The key to the men's season is Belo not getting into foul trouble. It's going to be the story the whole year. Today they really let both teams play which was good for us. Belo still had four fouls, but so did Patton. Belo's foul trouble is why we lost to Bakersfield. That and turnovers, which was also better tonight.

Wasn’t Sac supposed to be a tough matchup?

Good write up. Belo was a year too late for us. If he stays healthy and can figure out how to avoid silly fouls, he will go down as one of the best big men MSU has ever had. He's just a sophomore.

What do you mean year too late?

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

Oh just thinking out loud what last year's team could have been with a real presence at the rim like Belo. With Tyler Hall, Keljin Blevins, and Harald Frey we were just missing that inside presence. Of course Belo could have grown frustrated with what Fish asked his centers to do on defense like all his other centers except Sam Nuemann-who was actually a small forward-but one wonders. I'm certainly glad we've got Belo for three seasons. I think he' could be the best center we've had since Nate Holmstadt.

I agree about Belo. This team really plays hard.

Not really. Sac was picked to finish in 9th place out of 11 teams. I watched the game though, and I still thought it was a good win, even if Sac isn't really a very good team.

Really good win over a quality BSC opponent. And the crowd was rocking as well even without the students. I sure hope they show up after Christmas break!!

I agree Tom. Tough to play post defense when they can just drop a shoulder and push you off the block. Very frustrating to watch.

Oh gotcha. Yeah he would've been a nice piece last season.

And don't forget about Mbunga and the late Al Beye!

Mbunga was a skilled guy but not as physical as belo banging on the block, mbunga had a bit more finesse to his game. Loved big Al also, more of a rim protector true center type. This guy just looks different physically when you watch him move around the paint. Excited to watch him improve and watch where this team can get to by March.

Mbunga was the last guy we had with any real moves and offensive skill in the paint.

Sac was 7-2 heading into this game, only losses to #21 ranked Colorado State and a 10-2 Santa Clara team by 2 on the road. I mean not a super strong OOC or anything but they had a good OOC season anyway. And they are actually 3rd in the nation in point against.

Agreed. He was very skilled, probably not as physically imposing or punishing as belo but he could get his own shot down there, at least.

That ranking of 9th in BSC was before a ball was ever rolled out this year and it was also a media pick which doesn't take too many facts into their evaluations.....You guys got us on a bad night but just to let you know how the rankings look now here are a few....

Massey has us at 162...Montana St at 183

Sagarin has us at 218...Montana St at 221

Teamrankings has us at 203....Montana St at 213

NCAA has us at 145....Montana St at 211

So you can take that however you would like to but you were favored by 1 1/2 on Saturday at home...home teams are generally given 3 pts for home court so it looks like the bookies had the spread according to the latest rankings....Good win but it was not a given over a lower ranked team.....Just to set the record straight....

I agree. I thought it was a very good win against a pretty tough team. Go beat the griz tonight, ok? :D
