this guy pretty much checks every box in what you are looking for in a recruit.

A couple years from now, I could see looking back on this years crop of recruits from MT, and have Mellott ranked at the top of the list. He definitely has the potential to be a really good one.

Looks like Mellott will rep the Blue and Gold well.

Maybe, but he has a way of weaseling out of things like this. “I don’t recruit kids that play for ex-Bobcat coaches.” Or, “we already got our guy (Rostad).” Kinda like you weaseled out of paying up on that you had with wbtfg.

What does that FTG stand for? Favor The Griz?

Seems like a great kid. Excited that we got him.

I would imagine that he spends a RS year at QB, and then moves to WR or Safety. Really good athlete.

Haha, seriously FTG_1984 you don't have ANYONE fooled. You are so transparent, probably the saddest effort of disguising oneself as a Cat fan as I've ever seen.

Probably, but if he continues to improve like he has been, I wouldn’t count him out. Reminds me of an FCS version of Johnny Manziel.

The STEM aspect of recruiting probably plays a bigger role that you might imagine. I've had a number of current and past players in my (STEM) classroom and, prior to earning my PhD, tutored on the (mostly freshman) football study table put in place by Coach Ash. I remember believing that I'd have an easy time of working the study table, then spent most of my time helping with calculus and general chemistry courses. I guess this is why I really love FCS football so much. A lot of these kids know that this is probably the end of the line for them, so they are smart enough to pursue a degree that will allow them to see success after their playing career is over. You can get a fantastic degree over at UM, but if you want to major in STEM (especially engineering) and play Division I football, it's pretty tough to go wrong with MSU.

I’ve never been on e-griz, but If they are posting stuff like that, then that is just sad. Sheesh, this young man doesn’t just want to play football, he wants to go to a STEM school and have a good lifetime career. What’s wrong with that? It’s his life. Some of these fanboys really need to grow up.

As much as he has improved from his JR year, it's certainly not out of the question. He's gotten a lot better. Again, very good athlete.

I just think Robison is equally as athletic, if not more, and has better mechanics as a QB. That's the main reason I see Mellott switching positions, is the other QB we're bringing in.

Again, I don't mean it as a diss, it's just a way to get him on the field sooner. He would be more productive at WR or S than he would at QB, imo.

Sounds like he has untangibles and tangibles. That recipe beats straight talent every time. Happy to have him coming our way. I may live in the Gallatin Valley but I’m all Butte for this game.

I love it. Butte is a town that embraces a hero as much as any other. It has more pride than the rest of the larger cities in Montana, and when they get behind a hometown kid, they are so passionate. I'm excited about what Tommy will do on (and off) the field for MSU, but I think this is a coup for MSU to swing a whole bunch of Butte kids to pulling for the good guys because they idolize this guy.

Foley: If Mellott does not win the Montana Gatorade Player of the Year award, they should get rid of the award.

I don't understand this train of thought. I hope a kid like this, a natural born leader, extremely high character and intelligence, and freakishly athletic, can be the next great Bobcat qb.

I think Safety was the initial thought when he committed prior to his senior year. Now I'm guessing the coaches might rethink that.

Well...hope ain't got nothing to do with it.

I hope they're all the best ever, but I try to be realistic.

What I posted earlier is just how I think it turns out. Might be wrong, might be right, I just don't see him as an FCS QB.

Kinda reminds me of Kevin Thompson. I'll take that any day.

The odds are against Mellott, but it could easily happen considering his work ethic. I wouldn’t put anything past him.

There’s only been one full time starting QB from Montana at MSU or down I 90 the past 18 years and that only lasted one year. Probably a total of 50 QBs during that time.
