MBB @ Utah State
The season is here! Less than a week til tipoff. Tuesday 11/5 @ Utah State. I saw this way back and thought, ok this should be a good test. Now I see they are preseason ranked #17 in the nation.

Exhibition game tonight against Yellowstone Christian College from Billings.
The game shouldn't be competitive, but it will be interesting to see Sprinkle's lineups.

YCC lost to Rocky last night 86-75...so they shouldn't be too terrible.

While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."

We watched YCC play against Rocky in their inaugural season. I was surprised/impressed with how good of athletes they had recruited their first year. Haven't watched them much since, but apparently they are not too shabby..according to the above reported score

Great effort by the Cats last night. Played with a lot of passion. I'm excited to see this team develop and compete in the conference.

Great effort and they looked like they were having fun. I don't want to jump the gun, but they played well and it will be an interesting season. Its a totally different scheme and guys like Kirby and Ricketts may have to change their game up a little to get more playing time as going forward. I love the motion and plays being set up unlike the prior years of one guy going one on one all the time. Harry showed he could play at any level last night. I think he will be a great player overseas when he career is over here. There were some jitters with a couple of the guys, but man I think they are about 8 to 9 guys strong and I really wish we had one more year of Harry after this year. Last night they showed that they could be a year away from being a top big sky team if they can continue to grow together. Its gonna be tough to replace Harry thought next year. I am hoping one of these new guys can step it up. Biggest thing was they played hard and not once did I see a guy miss and look at the bench thinking he was going to get pulled. Confidence will only help these guys go further. Great effort guys!

Re: MBB @ Utah State
Really was impressed with the effort defensively, Both teams had early season jitters/rust at times, but those in attendance were rewarded with a very entertaining game. I liked hearing the announcers say that there is no way the MSU team is a middle of the road Big Sky team this year as the preseason polls predicted. Weve moved on, but a couple of those good players were Fish recruits. A couple weren't. For our very first real game and with so many new players, Sprinkle and company did a great job getting them ready. It seems each player is able to showcase/utilize their strengths, and what recruit wouldn't like to hear that?

Real bummer this board wasn't working during the game... it would have been fun to live the excitement with others. I was able to watch online via theMW.com fyi.

I also tried to get on the board to see what others were thinking/seeing.
Leon Costello was in Denver 2 weeks ago speaking to an alumni gathering. Lots of info about new building and overall health of Department. Normal focus on football. I asked a question about Montana being a basketball state and MSU having lots of passion for the team 15-20 years ago...how are we going to bring that back?
His answer: "Two words, Danny Sprinkle"
First game out...he wasn't wrong. Announcing the game was Joe Cravens, former coach of Weber State. He couldn't stop gushing about Sprinkle and staff. How great of recruiters they will be, how sharp their walk-around was. How prepared they had their team.
New guys looked good. Very athletic. It is clear that the Cats are chasing real D-1 talent. They had to grab it from JuCo this year, but I think we'll find it from high schools moving up.
Good point about RIcketts and Kirby needing to adjust to new system to keep minutes. I think they will. We were deep, and not afraid to play freshman. That is the way basketball is supposed to be played.....bust your tail as hard as you can (offense and defense), get tired, use everyone!

Great game! I hate losing, but love when our team competes! I was very impressed with Belo! Struggle with the shot selection of Fernandez....... saw some hero ball from him! I think Paulo, Belo and Fleute have huge futures in the program!
