Also sounds like good news for Romney.https://kxlh.com/news/montana-politics/ ... -projects/Renovation of Romney Hall into more classroom space at MSU. The $32 million project has been a priority for the university system for several years. Under HB652, $25 million of the cost would be funded by bonds and the remainder by private funds.

Stage Description
Gymnasium Rebuild Planning
Montana State University, Bozeman
A/E# 2012-02-07
Project Budget: $300,000
Montana State University, the State's land-grant institution, educates students, creates knowledge
and art, and serves communities, by integrating learning, discovery, and engagement.
During the past 10 years, the MSU-Bozeman campus has grown to more than 16,900 students,
1,300 faculty and 1,900 staff putting increasing pressure on student support spaces, including the
Marga Hosaeus Fitness Center. In addition to the consistent growth, more students are
participating in intramural programs, club sports teams, fitness programming, activities courses;
all of which are among the fastest growing recreational activities on campus. Due to a
catastrophic roof collapse in March 2019, more than 60,000 sf of gym, studio, multipurpose and
court space and 9,600 sf of swimming pool space west lost, compounding the space problem. This
one event is the driver for the rebuilding project.
The purpose of the project is to create a best-of-class fitness and wellness facility for MSU for the
next 20-plus years. The University will capitalize on every opportunity to create new program
opportunities and expand existing offerings that align with the contemporary needs of today’s
students, staff and faculty for fitness, wellness, recreation, instructional and research spaces. As
MSU continues improving wellness offerings, the University is interested in how we address all
aspects of well-being for the community as well.
The consultant will lead a programming phase to determine the requirements for the facility.
Programming is expected to include benchmarking trips to other universities, conducting student
focus groups as well as faculty and staff focus groups, evaluating the existing facility, and
developing programming options with a project committee to align with the goals and aspirations
of MSU resulting in a comprehensive, cohesive, and contemporary facility for University. The
consultant will also begin initial site assessments for locating appropriate facilities in close
proximity to campus core and master planning of wellness for campus. Additional phases will
include schematic design, design development and preparing construction documents, cost
estimating, rendering and marketing as needed.
The scope of services has the potential to be expanded to include other functions, such as Health
& Human Development, University Health Partners, Athletics and utility/energy connectivity with
other campus facilities.

You can find the plans on the MSU website if you look for whats bidding. The temp gyms are larger versions of the old tennis bubble. In looking at the plans it too bad they didn't make them a little bit larger as they could of been left in place after the gyms were rebuilt and acted as a indoor practice facility until we get our funding for the real one.

Because contrary to the popular belief amongst a certain amount of uninformed BN posters (you especially), they are actually hella stout and would easily last another couple decades. The renovations they'll receive this summer will likely surprise a number of folks...

How did people become so afraid of everything? I see people wearing helmets on their riding mowers, snow in the forecast causes plans to be scrapped, sanitary wipes at every business doorway.

Re: South gym roof collapse
Does anyone know: Did MSU purchase these or are they some type of lease or something? I ask because I wonder long term the plans for them. Gyms will eventually be rebuilt and the athletics plan.....that's the indoor practice facility spot I believe. Just wonder if MSU keep them and they can be repurposed somehow, if they're a lease and they go away, or is MSU resells them?
