Sonny Lubick From the Heart

Post by John K » Tue Sep 10, 2019 6:07 am

I just watched "Sonny Lubick From the Heart" on Altitude, which was very enlightening and interesting. I knew he had a reputation as a great guy, but I didn't fully realize how universally he was respected by everyone he's encountered during his career, both as a coach and as a person. Many people with ties to MSU and the state of Montana were featured in the story, or at least mentioned, including Butch Damberger, Dan Davies, Dennis Erickson, Joe Tiller, Mick Delaney, Mick Dennehy, Mike McLeod, and Sonny Holland. There were also many references to the MSU football program and "Butte, America". He took over at Colorado State when they were a perennial bottoms feeder in the WAC, and turned them into a top 25 program, and of course had great success at Miami under Dennis Erickson as well. I'm sure it will be repeated several times, and I'd encourage all Bobcat fans to try to catch it sometime.

Sonny is one of the best guys there is. His book "Not So Fast, Sonny" is a great read. I just checked. There are 24 on Amazon books cheap. The section about his time at MSU is especially interesting. Starts great-ends not so great. Lots of tidbits, like he almost left Bozeman for Nebraska.
Anyway, I'm not trying to shill the book. Sonny wouldn't get a dime anyway.
