Idaho needs to pay attention this week

The Vandals play Central Washington who are back in business after several years mid-pack. Many of you will remember when they came to Bozeman in 2002 and knocked off a good Bobcat team 31-16. That loss paved the way for freshman Travis Lulay to take over and it was those Cats who ended the griz streak. The 2002 CWU team was inducted into the school's hall-of-fame and called the victory over MSU the greatest in school history.
They have rebuilt along the lines of those days....recruiting good prospects from many of Washington's top high school programs and a lot of drop-downs. They have a QB and RB from Weber, an RB from Montana and transfers from Oregon State, Southern Utah, North Dakota. The guy who put the program back together is Ian Shoemaker. He took the OC job at Eastern Washington this year. His replacement is his OC.

Actually, I left out the point I was going to make as a result of CWU beating MSU. The previous week the Cats played one of Washington States finest teams and it was a real battle. This Coug team was at least as good as Texas Tech, probably better. These were the Bobcats of Ryan Johnson, Joey Thomas,etc. and I don't know if I've ever been prouder of a Bobcat effort. WSU won 45-28, but it was pretty much a wire-to-wire game. WSU finished 10-3 and lost to Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl.
The next week vs. Central Washington coach Kramer decided to sit down some of the guys who had got beaten up, including RJ and JT. Central came out like the Cats did the previous week and had a comfortable first half lead. Some of the Cats who didn't dress for the game came out to play the second half. But it was to late.
Like the Cats, Idaho got beaten up by Penn State last week. I can see Petrino using this week to get his team healed up. That would be a mistake.
