I think MSU got a commitment from Trey Yates out of Colstrip last night. Not as big (wide) as Tucker coming out of high school but a better athlete. Great developmental kid on the interior line.

Here's a picture of him after winning the Class B-C Heavyweight title this past winter:

It's been said before, but an offer sure doesn't have the prestige that it once did. Offers are getting handed out like high fives these days. I am also not impressed on the recruits side when they receive an offer to say that this is their 17th D-1 offer. Maybe in the future programs will be limited to the number of offers they can make based on number of scholarships available, or something. It's getting out of hand in my opinion. ](*,)

As Wayne Gretzky famously said, "You miss 100% of the shots that you don't take." Limiting the number of offers a school could make would just play right into the hands of the traditional powers like Alabama and NDSU who presumably have a higher "success" rate landing their top targets than their competitors do.

I don't care one bit how many offers they send out.

I care who they end up with. Whatever works.

I guess we shouldn't recruit kids then?

So every kid that is deemed talented enough to play at the next level should get a scholarship offer? And it wouldn’t necessarily play into the hands of teams like ndsu. Recruits can still be enticed/swayed by having the ability to play early. Where as if you go to ndsu or Alabama you may sit for two plus years or maybe not even play at all. However, sitting for two plus years may go for any program not just the top program.

So you put out a hand full of offers to the kids you really want, and strike out on all of them... betcha wish you had a backup plan. If you think the amount of offers we hand out is different than other schools you'd be surprised. The only difference from now to 10 years ago is social media's roll and how visible it is now.

I don’t have exact data obviously but I don’t think schools are offering way more than they did 20+ years ago. It’s just all out there for everyone to see at any minute. Social media and Twitter have changed the game.

With all due respect, I’m trying to figure out why this would bother anyone? I can’t see anything negative by offering kids who you think could help your program? Recruiting is cutthroat. If you’re not offering you can bet other schools are.

And let’s not forget that an offer isn’t a full ride scholarship....
