Tom Petty dead at 66

Post by Bobcatsinmso » Mon Oct 02, 2017 3:09 pm

Glad I saw him when he played the Brick in 2004. That will always be one of the BEST shows I have or ever will see. RIP Tom, Heaven done called another six stringer back home...

Man, such a bummer. Big loss for the music world.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

Absolutely brilliant song writer. He's been under-appreciated in that regard, IMO. Perhaps he won't be now.

Huge loss to the music world.

I got some of the old vinyl out tonight to say goodbye to one of my favorite musicians. May he rest in peace.

It was 07/05/2003 at the Brick, not 2004. It was the best show I have ever seen at the Brick, over 8000 strong. 2nd best show I ever saw there was Stevie Ray Vaughan, May 8, 1989. Sorry for the early announcement, my condolences to Mr Petty's family, friends and his Heartbreakers, and the millions of fans who will miss him dearly. RIP Tom.

I was at the 2003 concert as well.

I was an MSU student when SRV played there in 1989. I had a big test in an Engineering class the next day so I skipped out on the concert. He died the next year. I still regret missing that show. :(

I get to go to Gainesville, FL one week each fall for work. It was last week. Gainesville is Petty's hometown. The day after died, they played his songs on a loop across public speakers all downtown.

At the Gator vs. LSU game last Saturday. During the 3rd/4th quarter break, they played "Won't back down" and there was a 89,000 strong sing-a-long.....

I wasn't even a big fan, but knew his work....it was incredibly cool to see how much his hometown loved him
