IMpression of MSU and Bozeman from a Texan

Post by Futurecatdad » Tue Sep 15, 2015 1:52 pm

My son began his freshman year at MSU this fall. We drove him up there and spent the week at orientation. Originally, we were a little concerned with him being far from home (Texas) but no longer. The university is fantastic and the people of Bozeman treated us like family. Texans have always prided ourselves on being a friendly state but if Bozeman is an example of the state of Montana, you guys have us beat. We've heard from him a couple of times and he loves it and says he made the right choice. I told him I loved it too and might move up there and begin my doctorate. In that case, he says, I'm transferring. Anyway, a HUGE thank you to MSU, Bozeman, and everyone involved...a. fantastic place. I can't wait to attend Cat/Griz in November!

Welcome to big sky country! Cat/griz can be crazy. Ignore those folks that go to school west of us. Lots to do here in the summer and winter. I hope your son is successful in whatever degree he is pursuing.

Glad you enjoyed the trip and that your son likes it here.

You might need some warmer clothes for Cat/griz.

What are you talking about. The East side is the best side of the state. That's also true of Glacier Park

Good to know

I've always wondered what that was all about.

I guess it'll be some other time

FutureCatDad, Thanks for the post. I've always found Montana to be a friendly state unless it's the week before Cat/griz :-^ But I'm not convinced that Montana has the niceness market cornered. We spent several days in the College Station/Austin area when the Cats played A&M and I have to admit I got slightly tired of hearing "How y'all doin? Everybody treatin' y'all alright?" after the third day.

I hope your son has nothing but positive experiences in Montana and that you're able to visit our fine state often. Most posters here will be willing to share tips on places to see and things to do should you ever have questions.

Great to hear you had a good experience! I hope your son continues to have a great college experience in Bozeman. We loved our time there :D

And enjoy Cat/Griz. Plan for cold. Like really, reallyl cold.

I'll definitely plan on cold, but have to get tickets first.

This is from one of the two Cal Poly Friends of mine that made the journey with us from southern Idaho for the game last Saturday.

Love, love, love Bozeman and MT State. This is their homecoming and a couple kids walked by us in our Cal Poly Mustang attire and yelled F&*^" Cal Poly. Literally 12 people got out of their seats and shook our hands Saying "They must be from out of state because we don't behave that way here thank u for coming. We will definitely come back even though we r getting our asses beat.

I was not near them when this happened but if I had been it would not have been pretty. Thanks to those good Bobcat fans that came forward.
