Bresnan Internet in Helena
So I recently moved into a new place in Helena, and switched from Qwest to Bresnan. I've really had nothing but problems with the internet so far. First, the connection constantly dropped. They had to send out a technician to pretty much require our whole house. They didn't charge me, so that was nice.
After that, I was getting a solid 8Mbps down and a ping of 105 to speedtest.net via the Kalispell server (I have the 8Mbps package). About 10 days ago, I started getting 200+ ping & was lucky to get 3Mbps. I have called them several times on this issue, and the response is always "you ping great in-network, there is nothing we can do." I even requested to speak to a manager who could not help me. My traceroute showed horrible MS outside of Bresnan networks. So being sick of getting nowhere with Bresnan, I decided to call the 3rd party company who handles Bresnan's routing. The guy was very helpful, just asked for a copy of my traceroute and he said he'd get back to me. Well never never did get back to me, but the next day (today) the servers I told him about were fixed and are pinging around 80 now, rather than the 440 they were yesterday.
But despite that, I still ping horrible most places & can get nowhere near 8Mbps now. Has anyone else in Helena had problems with Bresnan recently? I'm getting really sick of getting the runaround for tech support, and I see Qwest now offers 7Mbps here...

Re: Bresnan Internet in Helena
I have to admit I don't know anything about "pinging", unless it's associated with "ponging", and I'm pretty good at that. I will say that I've had nothing but trouble with Bresnan for the past 4 years. We have the triple-play package, and are constantly having phone conversations dropped, television channels freezing up (especially late at night), and our internet has been horribly slow, however, I just attributed that to our computer. Whenever we call, we're always given the same bs lines. "your modem is bad", "loose connections on your electronics", "house needs rewired", "the rain is wreaking havoc with the systems", "they're (Bresnan) working in the area".
Despite the occasional dropped call, I do like the fact their phone service includes all long distance, which saves us a ton of cell phone minutes.

Retiring my moniker. It's time to ride off into the sunset. It's been a fun ride. Go Cats.

I actually just ran a traceroute again, and noticed the same servers that I thought were fixed are again horrible ping.
I contact Level 3 Communications, http://www.level3.com/index.cfm?pageID=558, and told the main customer service guy that my pings were horrible to a couple of their servers in Seattle & Denver, and the guy transferred me to someone who helped me out. He asked for a copy of my traceroute & I e-mailed him a copy of it.

You realize that the tech has better tools thatn just traceroute to check on the problems, having you email a copy to him was just a way of making you think he would do somthing. Your email was likly deleted as soon as he recieved it.CelticCat wrote:I actually just ran a traceroute again, and noticed the same servers that I thought were fixed are again horrible ping.

Perhaps but the pings were better the next day, only to be back to crap again today. Besides, having called Bresnan 3 times and being told there is nothing they can do, I decided to try something myself, long shot or not.cats2506 wrote:You realize that the tech has better tools thatn just traceroute to check on the problems, having you email a copy to him was just a way of making you think he would do somthing. Re: Bresnan Internet in Helena
Hate to tell you, but it's not just Helena. I get the same garbage in Missoula. I pay for 8, I'm lucky to get 5 or 6.
