CARDIAC_CATS wrote:Their fan base over the 'streak' was enough to put any Bobcat fan into therapy and they just hounded you over and over and over. So yes, there is still a little bad blood there.
But, consider how much crap I had to hear for the past two years over "we have a streak, 2 games!" Not that I would mind, but those people had no idea that the Bobcats won BSC championships or the like.

I am a University of Montana alum (and have zero appreciation for the smack about Montana's fine academic programs.) I had a fantastic time going to football games when I was an undergraduate (and during the times I can get back to Missoula.) I had a great time watching the soccer team when I knew the players, and think the Lady Griz represent all that is good about basketball.
The irony is that I know a fair amount of players on the Bobcat football team, and have nothing but respect for the amount of work that they put in to play football at the highest level. And, they know I am a diehard Griz fan. I once talked with one of the players about how he felt about Montana going to the playoffs. He wished them the best, and hoped they would win the NC and bring glory to the 'Sky. So I ask that those of you who delight in Griz bashing sit down and ask a Bobcat player what they do.
I will continue to go to Bobcat games, and cheer on the Bobcats. There are many fine players from Montana (even if we give the BozAngeles ribbing), and all of those athletes spend an incrediable amount of time to play their best.

I recently was involved in a car wreck; as I staggered to a place to call, over 100 vehicles that saw the accident went around the wreck and failed to stop until a California transplant stopped and took me to a place to report the moron going off the road  I guess just like all the teasing I give the "fans" from over the divide, I realize there's many great people wherever you go. I prefer to not hang around those that haven't been afforded the chance to travel and see the good in every community in spite of their illconceived prenotions about a sterotype of the place. Shucks, I even had to command a reserve unit once upon a time in Mazzola 8)

I never have nor ever will root for the griz. I remember watching the '95 national title game in the dorms being decked out in Marshall green and white, and actually seeing MSU students cheering for the Griz. To me this was unbelievable. And then I was introduced to the famous argument "How can you root against Montana kids?" It seems pretty simple to me, I HATE THE GRIZ and I will always HATE THE GRIZ. Some of my best friends have played for the griz, and while I enjoy seeing them have individual successes I cannot bring myself to root for their team to win. To me this is how I grew up and it is what makes this such a beautiful rivalry.

My brother's favorite football player is Randy Moss exclusively because of how he lit up the griz.

I have to admit, that was pretty funny. Would even make a good bumper sticker. :)

Bobcat fan through and through. Bobcat born and Bobcat bred and when I die, I will be Bobcat dead.

Chances of seeing me cheer for the griz are about the same as humans walking on our sun. NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!!!

Who cares if the are Montana boys or not. They made the choice of going to Missoula, not Bozeman. You are a CAT or not. If you go to ISU or PSU or NAU or EWU and are from Montana, well then best wishes. If you go to um, then tough titty, no congratulatory remarks out of me.

I hate the griz!!!!!!! I think that FTG says it best.

This argument is funny, think about it on the larger scale: do you think Michigan fans root for Ohio State, do Clemson fans root for South Carolina, do Texas fans root for Texas A&M, the list can go on and on.

'eff the friz.

I seem to be much more conflicted than most people on this thread. When the Griz do well, I am actually happy for the team itself (there are just too many personal connections in the small state of Montana to not pull for the actual athletes), as well as those fans who haven't been jackasses about the whole thing in the past. However, when the Griz fall flat on their faces, it gives me a bit of joy knowing that those same jackasses will be faced with a little humility and might even grow up a little bit as a result.

As for the Griz/PSU game, I am all for the Griz. As long as they are below MSU in the standings and lose to MSU each and every time, they are fine by me.

theblackgecko: I played for the Cats and if you were someone that I didn't know I would tell you the same thing, "I wish the best for Montana." But truly like every Bobcat football player that has ever set foot in Missoula, I hate them, and always will hate them! You sometimes say things you don't mean; especially to someone you don't know. All Bobcat football players want to see the Griz lose, they just are socially educated not to say that to someone they don't know (Griz players missed that etiquette lesson).

Boy I think I've seen this thread before. Move this crap to the smack board. We've beat this dead horse so many times, you couldn't even use it for jerky. Enough is enough of this Griz love/hate junk. What's the friggin point.

I swear, it's like I'm playin' cards with my brother's kids or somethin'. You nerve-wrackin' sons-a-bitches.'

The way I see it... I have no problem rooting for the actual team (UM), but then I inevitably have to interact with their fans, hear their announcers, and see the things they type on their BBS, and I have a very hard time following through with my good intentions of rooting for the Griz.
Very well put GD. It has nothing to do with the players, but the attitudes of fans can make you feel like you are crawling in bed with Satan if you route for the Friz. I disagree with the attitude "the players made a choice." I know of a few kids playing for the Bad Guys, that wanted to play for the Cats, schollys was the deciding factor as to go to college or not. Can't blame a kid who loves the sport so much, that he would play for Satan's team just to play football.

As for moving this to smack board, chill out, this is a major athletics issue on either side of the ball.

I wouldn't root for the Griz if I was a Cat fan. We have had the upper hand for quite a while now and that sucks when you are a rival. If things start changing and the Cats start dominating I will never root for the Cats no matter who they play. Until then, I root for the Cats when they play D-IA teams like CSU last year and OSU this year. I will root for the Cats any time they make the playoffs because I don't think the Big Sky gets enough respect and they are representing Montana. Other than that, I love nothing more than watching the Cats lose, especially when it is to a team like Sac. State that they should win.

Absolutely Helcat!!! I would not/could not EVER root for the Grizzlies! I suppose I feel a little less frustrated when they win and the win helps the Cats, but I would rather have the Cats be in charge of their own destiny than to have to ever hope for a Griz win!!!!! I am proud that with limited therapy, I survived their "streak", but now watch out! For all the faithful Cat fans out there, it is our time now!!!

Side note: The hiring of Coach K. for the b-ball team improved the UM department greatly. It is SO difficult to bring pride to it after we have had to stomach Coach Hauck!!! What an unimpressive/sore loser, actually classless says it all!!!

You have to be one or the other! GO CATS GO!!! (even if it is in checkers!!)
