As Bobcats can we root for the griz now?
OK now that we are out of the play-offs do Bobcats root for the Griz? This is something I often struggle with, with MSU out of the picture it seems to me like I should be mature enough to root for our instate rivals and fellow Big Sky mate. A win by them helps the Big Sky conference in a lot of ways, and in turn I guess helps us. If they win it all Bobby's gone (good or bad?). On the other hand there is this vocal segmate of the griz fan base that really make it hard I would rather see those guy's crash and burn. Hell if it was NAU or EWU I would have no problem honestly chearing for them, but the Griz and those unbareable fans that are bandwagoner. So I sit there with my friends in Missoula and I say well best of luck next week and on the outside I really think I believe it, but deep down in the back of my head there is a very dark side of me is saying crash and burn!

Nope, I will NEVER root for the griz. I will wish them "good luck," and I hope they play well and make the state of Montana proud, but I hope they do so while losing. If they manage to win the NC, it only widens the gap between our schools.
For what it's worth, I too hope Appy bites the big one against Youngstown. Here's to a UMass-YSU finale!

Okay, let me clarify. My perfect world.....UMass vs. YSU in Chattanooga. Your right about widening the gap if they win it all--I haden't thought of it. I just really, really don't want Appalachian State to win it all, I think they need to come back down to Earth.BozoneCat wrote:Nope, I will NEVER root for the griz. I voted yes for two reasons (and I have never once cheered for the Griz).
1) I suddenly feel more aggravated by ASU fans than Griz fans.
2) We played the Griz to within a touchdown in the loudest, wildest confines in 1-AA. A Griz title would make our conference look better.

Seems to me that both griz fans and appy fans (they don't deserve capitalization, either) are already making plans for the trip to Chatty and looking way past this weekend's games. Sure, if I had to bet money, I would take both those teams. But don't look past UMass and YSU, they are both really good teams.
And I'm still not sold on Hauck's coaching abilities. I am more impressed with him this year than any other, but I still don't think he (or Phenecie) does much for the offense. He is a good recruiter, and I think he is a good defensive coach. He is still a jackass, but not nearly as much as he was a few years ago. He doesn't say the really bad things like he did in the past, but he just comes across as cocky and arrogant (which is probably why griz fans like him). I still think it would be a huge risk for a I-A program to hire someone like him, but he may get his shot this off-season, we'll see.

Coach Mike Van Diest was at the game Saturday. Do you think he was talking about a potential opening that may happen soon?Hell's Bells wrote:I will have to say yes, and for a reasn that is not stated.

I voted a conditional yes for a couple of reasons 1) the majority of Griz fans have begun to act (especially on message boards) with class
and 2) APE State fans collectively could be a bigger bunch of a-holes than Griz fans

I can certainly understand your pain on this one...on the one hand, if the Griz win it all you are not that far off from doing the same. Your team competes well with the Griz and with some tweaking could be right there.
But like Randy Travis says, "On the other hand" there is the fact you will have to deal with iditos whom have absolutely nothing to do with the win comming on here and letting you know how great they are.
From what I saw of Appalachian State on Saturday they need to be brought down a peg. This is just another team full of guys thinking about when they make it to "the league". Fact of the matter is, maybe two of them (if they are lucky) will actually make it, and I am assuming they are probably linemen or a receiver.
For this reason I think it is ok to cheer for the Griz to win and not be heartbroken if they lose. I am a Griz fan so I always cheer for them, but I think I can handle them losing if App State doesn't win it all. Agreed?

This about says it all. However, I would be hard pressed to want either UMASS or dUMb in the title game. Kind of one of those games whereby unfortunately one of them have to win and I state that simply because of the fans. I honestly think Hauck is doing a much better job controlling his mouth and learning coach speak and all the kids wearing the dark pink this year have acted like fine young men, but that still doesn't alter the fact that they are FizzliesBozoneCat wrote:Nope, I will NEVER root for the griz. I did as well. After seeing suppossed HIGHLY RANKED Eastern teams like SIU that can't even throw the football I would agree that having the Griz win will help prove to those idiots back EAST that the Big Sky is a POWER conference! We not only have great athletes and speed but our teams are BALANCED! No way in hell is a SIU team that can only run the rock going to come into Missoula and beat them on the ground? What was that coach thinking? That is going right into the TEETH of the Griz defense if you aren't going to pass the football. They were beat before they ever stepped on the field.Billings_Griz wrote:I voted "YES".![]()

Although I DO believe the Griz winning another NC would hurt us from a recruiting standpoint, I probably COULD root for them were it not for our favorite griz fans like scats, bearbac, etc...
There are just enough of those *ahem* fine folks out there that make it unBEARable for me to truly want the Griz to win.
Hauck has definitely changed my opinion of him this season and I have NO problems, really, with any of the Griz players. I also know a ton of griz fans who are just like most of us Cat fans and I have no problem with the thought of them celebrating a championship should the Griz win 2 more...
But, thanks to the grizidiots, the best I can muster is "I don't care whether they win it all or not", I guess.

Okay, I have had a few days to get over the loss to AppSt. And I have witnessed how all the love the Cats were getting from teddy fans quickly turned to smack, arrogance and dribble. I now am officially changing my vote! I originally said yes to this stupid question but am changing it to a big fat NO! I can't root for the teddies, never have rooted for the teddies, and definitely will not start this weekend. GO UMASS!!!
