The World Cup
Anybody else following it? Anyone? Anyone?
I've come out of the closet along time ago-annoucing that I'm a soccer fan. The next month is pretty much nirvana! I remember when the World Cup final was featured on Wide World of Sports somewhere between Mexican Cliff Diving and Battle of the Network Stars. Nowadays-every game is on English speaking ABC, ESPN, or ESPN2. Germany and Costa Rica have just started things off.
Brazil is the favorite of course-as they are everytime they step on the field-Germany should go far-as the host always does, and my favorite (other than the USA) Holland is close to home and could do some damage. The European teams should fare much better in Germany than they did in Korea-Japan in 2002.
The USA has a nice team, but they're in a tough group-expectations are a little too high methinks. I hope not-but I don't see us getting out of the group.
Enjoy the month!

While I won't knock soccer because it is fun to play and ok to watch, do you really think this is the best month of every four years?MSU01 wrote:World Cup = best month of the everyfouryears!
Caught the second half of the Germany game...that fourth goal was amazing.
I can think of things that as a member of this site might be better like:
1.) College Football Recruit Signing Day/Month
2.) Spring Practice Begins
3.) August - Practice Begins
4.) September
5.) October
6.) November
......
7000.) MARCH MADNESS IS THE GREATEST MONTH EVER!
Ok, so maybe not 7000 things better than the month of World Cup, but certainly a lot.

You must have gotten dizzy in a FOUR GOAL scoring frenzy. That equates to watching a NASCAR race standing in the middle of the trackMSU01 wrote:World Cup = best month of the everyfouryears!

if you're keeping score, France gave us Burgundy wine, cigarettes, berets, B.O., brie and the Napoleon complex-Bill Simmons

Were it not for the great avitar, I would lobby aggressively for a lifetime ban ... but given the cool avitar ... let me just wag my finger and bob my head back and forth while floating my shoulders saying "Oh no you did-unt just say that!"rtb wrote:WHAT?MSU01 wrote:Yes, the World Cup is my favorite sporting event, period.
Even better than Cat/Griz football...that's probably going to get me banned, isn't it.That should result in a self-imposed ban of say....20 years?

I'm still watching the World Cup with a few billion other people.
Here's a somewhat humerous piece from a British perspective:

I was a soccer fan before I knew anything about "American football". My favorite athlete when I was little was Pele. I probably couldn't have named a single NFL team besides the Seahawks (I'm originally from Seattle) These days, I watch the Olympics and the World Cup more than anything else (except for maybe Cubs baseballHell's Bells wrote:avatar regardless he should get a lifetime ban for talking soccer on a sports messageboard....Bay Area Cat wrote:Were it not for the great avatar, I would lobby aggressively for a lifetime ban ... but given the cool avatar ... let me just wag my finger and bob my head back and forth while floating my shoulders saying "Oh no you did-unt just say that!"rtb wrote:WHAT?MSU01 wrote:Yes, the World Cup is my favorite sporting event, period.
