Based on your last sentence, I guess you felt Biden and Kamala were doing a great job. And while I hate to see MSU lose any money, are you saying these were critical and essential programs? Would the US be better spending that money on other critical needs like battling the drug war?Team10 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 1:19 pmMontana State will lose at least $13m in grants/funding and potentially much more. The money "saved" will be going to Trump's tax cuts for the wealthy, not the fight on a "drug war."Cataholic wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 7:11 pmBased on your last sentence, I guess you felt Biden and Kamala were doing a great job. You might have missed a class or two on economics, but a general tax cut theory is that it will result in greater disposable income and spending for all classes. It spurs reinvestment and creates new jobs. A popular term was even coined called Reaganomics.
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/r/reaganomics.asp
If you think that our government has been spending money wisely for the past decades, I am sure you would be in the minority. But maybe there is a need for educating Nigerian tribes on the importance and accessibility to transgender rights.
Good post. And I agree that no economic policy is fool proof. However, in your post you mention that the rich buy yachts and airplanes instead of reinvesting. Who do you think builds these yachts and airplanes? Will workers benefit from building those “toys”. I would say yes.77matman wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 9:19 pmYou’ve stated the promise of Reagannomics / trickle down economics. A rising tide floats all boats. Studies have indicated however that most of the freed up tax dollars didn’t get reinvested in the economy to help all income levels. Mainly just the well to do. Although the country did ok this article states the county actually did better under higher tax rates.
Instead of reinvesting corporations bought back their stock which drove up their EPS which coincidentally drove up one of the larger matrix’s of senior manager’s performance review and thus their bonuses. Individuals did what rich individuals do. They bought new toys. Yachts and air planes.
If you ask yourself when was American the greatest a lot of folks would say the 60’s and 70’s. There was a strong middle class and high marginal tax rates.
I vote conservative more often than not, but giving the richest people who really don’t care about society more money, probably isn’t the best for society.
In his book, Mitt probably said it best. He didn’t know how republicans convinced middle class voters conservative policies were good for them.

You have a real bad habit of making assumptions and putting words in peoples mouths. I said “other critical needs LIKE the war on drugs”. I didn’t say ONLY the war on drugs. Don’t you think that this administration has done more against the war on drugs in the first 30 days that Biden over 4 years? The number of criminals coming over the border illegally is down like 90%. That is a crazy number. Is it being wholly funded by cutting government waste? Not entirely, but I would rather see us spend money in that battle against drugs versus transgender education programs in Africa. The Butcher wrote: ↑Wed Mar 12, 2025 8:00 amMoving the goal posts again.Cataholic wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 7:58 pmThose emojis do wonders for your credibility! The Butcher wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 2:55 pmYou could use a search engine like "Ask Jeeves" to find the answer, but here you go:Cataholic wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 12:40 pmAnother well thought out piece of “factual” information. So originally you stated these "tax cuts" are funding the war on drugs? How adorably misguided. In reality, these cuts are a desperate attempt to patch up the gaping hole in our budget caused by Trump's fiscal misadventures. The tax cuts championed by Trump, is projected to add approximately $4.5 trillion to the deficit over a decade. This isn't some economic wizardry; it's basic math. Ignoring this reality suggests a fundamental misunderstanding of economics. And let’s be real—recklessly piling on debt to cover for these cuts is the exact opposite of being fiscally responsible with American tax dollars. So, unless you've got some concrete evidence linking these tax cuts to the war on drugs, it's time to face the facts.![]()

Oh, this is rich. So because I call out the blatant fiscal irresponsibility of Trump’s tax plan, that must mean I think Biden and Kamala were doing a great job? Solid logic there—because clearly, if you criticize one thing, you must be blindly worshipping the other. And let’s talk about these critical and essential programs you’re so eager to dismiss. Funny how the definition of "critical" changes when it’s something you don’t personally care about. But sure, let’s just funnel everything into your pet priorities and pretend that slashing revenue while racking up debt is somehow the mark of strong leadership.
Also, love the complete confidence in that 90% drop in illegal border crossings—just casually tossing out a number that has been fact checked and found misleading. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/f ... ng-sharply

And get your facts straight. It is not “tax cuts” that are funding programs like the war on drugs. It is cutting government waste. Then we can reallocate resources to critical programs.
Also, love the complete confidence in that 90% drop in illegal border crossings—just casually tossing out a number that has been fact checked and found misleading. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/f ... ng-sharply
But hey, at least we can agree on one thing—you do have a habit of putting words in people’s mouths.
There were two candidates. You have Trump derangement syndrome. Who did you vote for in the last election? Is it “far fetched” for me to assume you supported Biden Harris?
Are you for funding the questionable programs like transgender education programs in Africa? I am not. I believe there are much more worthwhile programs that benefit our country.
PBS has become a far left platform. It is a fact. For discussion purposes, assume that it is not a 90% drop at the border. Can you agree that it was significant? And can you agree that this admin has done a much better job than Biden?
Lastly, as I mentioned earlier but you apparently haven’t taken the time to read, a large portion of the tax cuts are on social security, tips and overtime. Who does that directly benefit? The rich or the middle income? And the tax cut philosophy is a matter of debate, but many economic experts understand trickle down economics. In this instance, much of the new disposable income created is for the middle class.
As for my “pet projects”, what are you referring to? Cracking down on drug smuggling? Addressing cartel crime in the US? Maybe human trafficking? Are these just my “pet projects” or do you believe in addressing any of these?
