Gallatin passes Missoula in population

Post by TomCat88 » Fri Aug 13, 2021 2:09 am

After a 33% increase from 2010 Gallatin is now the second highest population in Montana.

This link has a few data points and factoids one who has lived in areas that experienced extreme population growth (Georgia from the late 70s until early 2000s) find many similarities. Although 33% in ten years seems large, what would it be if there were the same type of large construction companies to handle the housing demand and infrastructure Georgia attracted in the eighties?

Those four counties with over 100k would experience nightmares given our reluctant nature toward accepting transplants (and those returning to Montana after successful careers elsewhere) and our inability to get through all the logistics involved in building for that growth. Case in point would be how long it takes to get an oil well drilled in Montana versus Wyoming or North Dakota. North Dakota drilled 100 wells to the one that got approved in Montana. Another example is our farce of cell service outside the metropolitan areas of Montana.

Anyway, here's a link with decent data points:

I was very surprised by that-especially since Missoula County isn't exactly stagnating.
Bozeman will likely pass Great Falls to be the third largest City in Montana in a couple of years.
I don't think Bozeman will catch Missoula in the 2020's-and nobody's catching Billings for a while.
Belgrade is now Montana's 8th largest City.

We were Class C when I was a Panther. Still hate Bozo too! Parents would drive to Butte, Helena or Billings before they'd spend a dime in all the Bozeman Rosary owned businesses and they loved to read about the public high school losing...guess I picked up a lot of what the Valley towns thought of the county seat...

I think worldwide population growth is bad in our current environment.

From a military historical perspective (and being part Native American), I'd disagree with you! But, I think I'll just watch a couple youtube videos of The Indian and the White Guy instead.

 Yeah, disease is one way to do it, but I'd like to think we're smart enough to figure out a way to do that without a lot of suffering. Like just stop having so many kids.

You know, I've spent a lot of the summer on Table Rock Lake and in Kansas and many of the transplants there are really into watching George Carlin Youtube videos. I'm really against abortion. BUT!!!! I think we ought to do something Carlin suggested. Give everybody a chance and then if they really are as stupid as all those he observed, give retroactive abortion a shot! I mean, those recipients of the Darwin Awards aren't enough and Covid isn't working on all those worthy of Darwin Awards. What say you? Was the cynical George Carlin right?

Ask any Chinese man looking for a wife how that's working for him right now...

I think it’s Missoula. I believe there’s a refugee non profit there.
