I am genuinely interested, and this is not smack, but I lack perspective and understanding on why Peter Fields and the administration put all their focus on football and basically ignore both the hoops programs.

It's really frustrating. I get that football has the biggest revenue generating potential but I don't think the program is strong enough to carry the entire department, especially when we aren't winning conference titles and/or winning playoff games consistently.

Why isn't basketball more promoted by MSU? The Griz see to manage three solid program at that compete year in and year out while PF seems content with losing programs and a football program that is a tad better than average in the conference....and clearly losing ground.

There isn't much to do for the next several months and I would love nothing more than to be able to go and watch a competitive basketball game at a packed and energetic Fieldhouse. Unfortunately I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Please help me cope with why.

I don't think UM promotes their hoops teams any more than MSU does. UM just has a far better coach and players than MSU. But yeah, there's not really any urgency in upgrading our basketball program.

Am I sensing a pattern here with this lack of urgency?

You two have clearly forgotten about MSU's 29 (give or take a few) consecutive trips to the Big Sky Tournament. Who cares if they lose by 30 points once they get there, right?

Seriously though, if I lived in Bozeman there is still one MSU basketball team I'd buy season tickets for.

I got a tour of the Adams Center from one of their top Athletic dept administrators about a year ago through a mutual friend. We discussed basketball at length. They do focus on it. We do not.

Friends who live in Missoula say the Griz do a lot to sell their men's and women's programs. I haven't been to any athletic event in Missoula but apparently their basketball games are well promoted and fun to go to for action on the court and the overall atmosphere. They have a lot going on and it's a good time.

I go to the field house and it gets me in the mood for bed.
