...that some nights you can seemingly drink forever and barely feel buzzed, and other nights after just 3 micro beers you can barely see straight?
These are the types of questions I cannot wait to ask God when I get to heaven.

I hear ya. 3 Street Fighter Ales at Angry Hanks WILL f*ck you up. Add 3 Wild Fly's from Yellowstone Valley and you're ready for bed.
I love it.

And don't forget the next morning. One night you drink everything in sight and wake up fine. Another night you drink next to nothing and can hardly scrape yourself out of bed.

It's called alcohol expectancy. Basically, if you are drinking to get wasted, you will. If you are drinking thinking that alcohol won't impair you, you most likely won't experience any rowdy behavior, and won't feel very drunk. There are several articles floating around on this. It varies from culture to culture as well. I know after half a beer after work on a Friday, I'm feeling pretty good already. But if I'm drinking and not in a great mood, I have had those nights where it seems impossible to get "drunk". Alcohol acts as a mood enhancer. If you are happy when you start drinking, you'll feel pretty good pretty fast, and so on.
As to ChiOCat's question, it depends on how hydrated you were, if you drank on an empty stomach, if you drank sugary drinks (or even worse, fake sugary drinks - supposed to get you drunker faster, same with energy mixed drinks), etc etc. You could have 14 shots of Cuervo, but if you were fully hydrated & ate bar food beforehand (yes, bar food is a good primer for drinking; greasy, soaks up alcohol), you'll probably be alright. If you have 3 hard lemonades on an empty stomach after a big workout without rehydrating, you could have a long morning.
Too many variables here.

I don't ever want to be considered a smart drinker...

boy i wish this was the case for me. i guess it sort of is. if i ever set out to get wasted a almost always accomplished that. however, about 99% of the time this isn't how it goes for me. i set out to just have a relaxing time with friends and watch a game or something. as the game goes on i don't even notice how fast my beers are going down. plus, you always get the guys buying shots after a score or what-not, and before i know it i'm already getting drunk. i almost never go out to get wasted anymore. yet there are several occasions where i thought the alcohol wouldn'y impair me....and it most certainly did! i'm guessing this is probably the mindset of most people who drink and drive! "i didn't set out to get wasted....so i'm fine to drive."

Well see, you were obviously in a good mood when you got drunk before knowing it. Peer pressure, even in the mild case of celebrating a score with a shot (Hey let's all take a shot if we make this field goal!), adds to this.
By the way I'm mostly talking out of my butt here, just some things I've observed during my professional drinking career at MSU. I get anti-social sometimes, and those were the times I found it pretty hard to get a good drunk going. Doesn't mean your BAC is any less.
It's kind of a placebo effect. Give O'Douls to some people telling them it is Coors Light, some of em will think they are drunk. Those that know better will figure it out pretty quickly.

reminds me of something so funny, and also kinda mean. my freshman year we hung around a girl that lied about everything...big or small. we're talking about everything from having cancer to what she had for breakfast! everything was a lie. so one year for new years eve we had a huge party. when she was in the bathroom we let many at the party know that while we all would be having champagne, this girl would be drinking sparkling cider! man it was funny. she was the most "hammered" out of anyone within a half hour just being crazy. dancing on the table, being very loud and very slutty. in fact, she ended up hooking up that night and blamed the whole night on being hammered! it was only then that we let her know what she was drinking and man was she mad! but come on....

Ask him how come he didn't have HeyZeus smoke some KGB instead of drinking booze, because everyone thinks he's a child abuser for it. Alcohol is to weed what the Bibble is to Science.

I actually smiled as I wrote that thinking about "a" vs "e" but was too lazy to look up the correct one. I figured I'd get something from Alpha.
Obviously there isn't any long term damage done to my brain power either!
