Former Griz Ferriter battling cancer
I hadn't seen this yet, and wasn't sure where to post it. Mike Ferriter is battling cancer and his former teammates are holding a fundraiser for him. I know his parents, and yes, even though they are Grizzlies, they are very good people. Ferriter was a hell of a player, both for Helena High and for UM. Just thought I would toss this out for those interested. I wish Mike and his brother the best in their recoveries, and send prayers to his family.

Former Griz holding benefit for Ferriter
Former University of Montana football player and Helena High standout Mike Ferriter is relying on his old quarterback once again as he fights cancer. Cole Bergquist and other former Grizzlies are teaming up to help their friend as he battles testicular cancer. Meanwhile, Ferriter’s brother, Kevin, has been battling a genetic bone disorder for the past eight months that now has him bedridden. Bergquist is leading the charge to raise money to help defray the medical costs that the Ferriter family has been hit with. Past Montana teammates will be hosting a dinner at Ciao Mambo in Missoula on May 6, 8 p.m. The cost is $40 per person which includes entree, choice of appetizer, salad or dessert, two glasses of wine and gratuity. There will be a small silent auction during the dinner. Former teammates Ty Palmer, Jace Palmer, Andrew Selle, Chase Reynolds and Alex Verlanic will be in attendance to show their support for the Ferriter Family. Space is limited. For more information or to purchase your ticket, please contact Brynn at 243-5405 or bkmolloy@gmail.com. If you would like to make a general donation to the cause, you can mail a check to the Ferriter Family Fundraiser, c/o First Interstate Bank.

just another example many people need to see that there are things way bigger than cat griz. i saw this on egriz yesterday and regardless if you are a cat fan or not, if you have the means i strongly encourage everyone to make a donation. even if it's 10 bucks it adds up and would help this family a ton. can not imagine what that family is going through right now.

do you have to know everything to post here? or just think you do?

Well said wtg! Mike's mom runs an after-school/summer program at the school where my kids go. A few years back when they were younger, we had them enrolled in the summer program. I would send the kids over in their Bobcat gear, and we had a great time razzing each other. She's a great gal, and I really feel for the family.whitetrashgriz wrote:just another example many people need to see that there are things way bigger than cat griz. i saw this on egriz yesterday and regardless if you are a cat fan or not, if you have the means i strongly encourage everyone to make a donation. even if it's 10 bucks it adds up and would help this family a ton. can not imagine what that family is going through right now.

Old Skool,
Thanks for posting that. I'd met their father on several occasions when I used to work for the state. Great guy and great family. I had no idea that Kevin was having medical issues as well. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Ferriter family.

Retiring my moniker. It's time to ride off into the sunset. It's been a fun ride. Go Cats.

I hope they have health insurance and that this money is just needed for some relatively small expenses above and beyond what the insurance will cover. The stress and pain of going through something like this within a family is terrible, and I hope it isn't something that will end up sapping all of their financial resources as well. My best wishes go out to this family and all of the families out there that are dealing with similar health problems.
