Curling is awesome! Although as far as being "Olympic" I'm not sure...gtapp wrote:Curling!
But as far as boring, I would have to agree with figure skating.

I think that's what I enjoy about curling. It seems like it would be something most people could partake in, at least on a recreational level. I imagine there's a lot of available ice time at rinks all over Montana. I don't know the specifics, but couldn't a normal ice rink be set up to accommodate several curling sheets? Might be kind of fun to start a new "Montana Curling League".Billings_Griz wrote: Anyway, curling is a good game to play w/ a beer in your hand.
After reading this site, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curling#Cu ... .28rock.29" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, it might be necessary to get sponsors though. Check out the price of the "rocks". OUCH! $500-$1500.

Only if I can use the 5-pounders. My current workout regime consists of power lifting anywhere from 12-24 oz at a time. Any event that relies on judges to determine the winner ... so yeah, figure skating tops the list.

Re: Worst Winter Olympic Event??
To tell you the truth, I find almost every event in the winter olympics to be fairly boring. The only event that I truly enjoy watching is hockey; when it comes to curling, bobsledding, speedskating, luge, etc....asking me which one I'm the least interested in is kind of like asking me whether I'd rather be shot in the head, be mauled by a grizzly bear, or be forced to drink a glass of hemlock. At the end of the day, they all suck, and it's hard for me to say which one sucks the most.
Having said that -- I definitely don't think figure skating is the worst event in the olympics. I do agree with BAC in that I get frustrated by how subjective (and political) the scoring is, but the thing about figure skating (or gymnastics, in the summer games) is that at least to me, what the athletes do is actually pretty impressive. When you look at the coordination, balance, flexibility, and timing that are needed to perform some of the moves they do, I personally find figure skating to be more interesting and impressive than, say, bobsledding (or many other events). The judging almost always turns political, and that sucks, but I can't say it's the worst event.

Re: Worst Winter Olympic Event??
Figure skaters are remarkable athletes. As GL alludes to, they're probably better athletes than many at other events in the winter games. And I don't even mind watching a little of it for the artistry. But I agree with GL and BAC that the scoring is not only subjective, but is also impossible for the lay person to understand and make sense of. At least in gymnastics, you get a pretty good idea what the judges are looking for and the average person can see flaws in routines. In skating, however, unless somebody falls on their A$$, the average Joe has no idea whether the routine is good or not.

Any sport that has a defined winner such as a head to head race is what the Olympics are about.
Judges are often times too politically swayed to provide an unbiased opinion.

Figure skating is bad, but ice dancing is much worse. It's figure skating but without the opportunity to see people fall on their asses. Yawn. Go hockey!

I love the Winter Olympics. I love any sport that requires a safety helmet.
As well as sports like rodeo that probably should.

Re: Worst Winter Olympic Event??
I don't like watching figure skating, but I will say that I hate seeing any skater fall during the Olympics. That just sucks to put in all that time and hard work, and in one millisecond, you are done. Figure skating has to be one of the highest-pressure sports, if not the highest pressure, at the Olympics.
That said, I'd rather watch China vs. Finland in women's hockey instead of men's figure skating....and I did.
